My Baby

Based on "Lie, Lie, Lie' by Serj Tankian

The world, in essence, is a malevolent, cruel machine. It pumps you full of lies, false hope, and pain. There is a pre-set blueprint for "success" that the system lays out for every individual: go to school, get a job, get a house, get married, and die. Life is painful and boring then you're gone. There's no meaning to it, it's short and pointless. Even though you breathe, move, and speak, you are not really alive.

She thought these things everyday for years. The only thing keeping her from taking her own life was her lover. Maybe, just maybe, he would bring something meaningful to her "life". But one day, something in her mind snapped. She didn't care anymore and she just wanted to get out.

The woman got home from her job to see her husband sitting expressionlessly on the couch, as if he were dead. He suddenly looked up at her and muttered,

"Oh sorry, I was just thinking."

She gave him an empty smile and sat down next to him.

"Hey can I talk to you?" she asked.

The man simply looked at her and nodded his head.

"I want to end this." she said slowly. The man looked shocked.

"What do you mean babe? End what? " he said nervously.

"My life! I can't take it! It means nothing! And I want out." She replied hysterically, half in tears.

"I feel that way sometimes too. But we can work through it! You really want to go and leave me?"

"I can't take anymore. Nothing can change my mind." The girl answered.

The man felt stunned by what he was hearing. Then a kind of anger began to boil up inside of him.

'How can she say her life means nothing? So that means I'm nothing to her! She can just go and kill herself and leave me alone! Our love is nothing but a lie.' He thought to himself.

The room was dead silent for a few moments. The two lovers were waiting for the other to say something.

"What if I go with you?" the man said suddenly, breaking the silence.

"You would really do that?" she inquired, surprised by the man's proposition.

The man said nothing to this and grabbed her by the hand and walked with her to the seaside cliff just outside their home. They were going to jump together into the rocks below, and die together on impact. They situated themselves inches away from the edge of the cliff, their backs facing the water. The lovers stood there, hand-in-hand, waiting for the other to be ready to make their final jump. The girl subtly looked over to her husband signaling she was ready and he nodded.

With a violent jerk, the woman fell backwards from the cliff as her lover let go of her hand. He spun around to watch her as she plummeted to her fate. As she fell the woman let out a blood-curdling scream when she saw her mate standing on the edge. He looked down at her and saw her arms outstretched to him, as if she wanted him to save her.

Etched on the husband's face was a smile. An unreadable smile with no visible emotions behind it. Then, just as quickly as he let go of her hand, she impacted the jagged boulders at the bottom, breaking every bone in her body and ending her life instantly.

The man slowly stepped away from the edge and began walking back into his home. As he entered the threshold of his house, he began to sing a little melody to himself. Over and over he delightfully sang,

"Lalalalalalalala lie, lie, lie"

"Lalalalalalalala lie, lie, lie"

"Lalalalalalalala lie, lie, lie"

"Lalalalalalalala lie, lie, lie"
