"So, what are we gonna do for The Fourth of July?" Lorelai
asked Rory.
It was a week until Independence Day, and Lorelai and Rory were trying to figure out what they were going to do.
"I don't know. Maybe we could have a party and invite everyone. And then watch the fire works display at the end." Rory suggested.
"Good idea. I think we should go shopping for supplies right now." Lorelai said, excitedly.
"It's a week away!" Rory exclaimed.
"Maybe you're right. But, Miss Manners would insist that we give everyone a week's notice before the party. So let's at least buy invitations." Lorelai persisted.
"Alright. Fine. Have your fun. You can go pick up the invitations at Hallmark, but I'm gonna stay here."
"Why?" Lorelai asked.
"Cause. I'm going to get a jump on studying for the big test in two weeks. Summer school is a lot of pressure you know." Rory replied.
"Ok. But when I get back, you have to help me fill them out." Lorelai said.
Lorelai headed out the door into the sweltering summer heat.
She smiled as she walked.
This was going to be a fun Fourth of July.
Something about the prospect of watching the town's fire works show, while eating tons of hotdogs and junk food, made her grin.
When she reached Hallmark, she pushed open the door and stepped inside.
She smiled when the cold air conditioning of the shop hit her face.
It made her just a tad giddier than she had been.
She walked straight to the cards, and searched for invitations that were patriotic.
When she found a rack of them, she plucked one by one out of its holder, and read it, front to back.
She finally decided on a red, white, and blue invitation.
It was an American flag.
After she had found them at the front of the store in an invitation box that contained enough invitations, she put them in a basket, paid for them, and headed for the market to pick up mini boxes of chocolates.
They were white chocolate dyed red, white and blue, and they were molded into small American flags.
A very big theme for that time of year.
She arrived home a short while later.
Rory was surprised to see her back so soon, because usually Lorelai spent hours mulling over different cards.
But, today she was so excited that she just wanted to get home and fill out the invitations, so she could send them.
"Hey, kiddo. I got everything we need to invite everyone."
"Weren't you just getting invitations?" Rory asked, her forehead creasing with confusion.
"At first. But then I got this great idea. I'm going to send everyone a mini box of chocolates, with the invitation taped to the front."
"That is a good idea." Rory said, as she picked up a box of the white chocolates.
"Don't eat those!" Lorelai demanded as Rory tore open the box.
"Aren't we invited?"
"You're right. Give 'em here!"
