One love

Every year he walks the same road. Nothing changes. Every year he walks to the cemetery and then to the site of their first date. Then to the church they were wedded in. Then to the church where he lived, every time seeing a Hunter he hadn't seen before.

Then he goes to Idris, the first place they kissed, where they fought as a pair.

Then he goes to the apartment where he conducts official business.

Then back to their house. Where they unofficially lived. Alec had to live in the Institute officially and so officially Magnus and their son lived alone there.

Magnus missed him more each day. It didn't get better. Nobody kept him going. Tessa tried. But she didn't manage. Magnus couldn't. He wouldn't move on. He refused.

"Magnus, I'm trying to help you. Throw a party, get a new pet do something, please Magnus I'm begging you to, I need you to, move on," Tessa would plead.

But Magnus waited for her to finish and looked her in the eye and said quietly, "There is nothing to move onto."

Catarina tried too. "I lost Ragnor, Magnus, I managed. Just try to find someone."

But he would wait to say, "No. I can't."

Even Malcolm tried. "There are other cats. Try them. Maybe a green eyed cat. Or one with ginger fur, or brown. I'll get a brochure." Needless to say it didn't work. He seemed convinced that Magnus was still upset about Chairman Meow.

This kept going until he snapped.

"You want me to move on? Most people are lucky to find one great love in their life. You found two, Tessa. But I won't. I know I won't. Alec was it. That's it. I can promise I won't move on and I'm so me that whoever I try to move onto will be infatuated and I can't do that. To anyone. And Cate, you moved on to Malcolm who I know you have had a crush on for centuries. I don't care. I refuse to move on. Alec was it. I love him."

Tessa and Catarina looked at each other and left. Over the centuries he worsened. Until he ended it. He called up his father.

His father took pity on him and took his life.

Waiting for him, in the dimension of death was Alec, his sweet angel. And they went hand in hand to their next life.
