It was a long day for the five emotions. Trying to maintain an adolescent 12-year-old girl was no easy task. Sadness always was there for the drama. LOTS of drama. Oh, the preteen drama!; her sleep schedule was out of whack. She woke up groaning after realizing that she only had about, or what felt like, 4 hours of sleep.
Anger had eyed Sadness with sympathy. He noticed that she seemed more down than usual. When Sadness sat on the couch, he sat right next to her.
"Kid, you feeling okay?" he asked.
Sadness looked up at him. There were dark circles under her eyes. "Hmm" she said, sleepily, "oh, I'm doing fine." She almost passed out, but jutted herself awake. Anger placed his hand on her shoulder. "Ok, I'm not, really. I barely get any sleep anymore."
"Oh, kid. I'm so sorry." He pulled her in for a hug. But as he pat her back, he heard a little snore in his ear. "Um, kid." Then she got back up.
"Oh, Anger, it gets worse than that. I also get up at night to look over Riley, but then I realize that it's nighttime. I don't know what to do anymore." She put her face in her hands and began sobbing. Anger lifted her face by her chin and looked her in the eyes. He wiped her tears with his thumb.
"I have an idea: how about I sleep with you tonight, kiddo?"
"Really?"
"Yep. I'll be by you the whole time."
This put a smile on her face and she hugged him excitedly.
Later that evening, true to his word, Anger slept with Sadness in his arms. Luckily, neither of the Two had Dream Duty that night (Joy did), so this was perfect for them.
"As long as I'm here, you'll be fine, kid," Anger whispered to her. Then kissed her cheek. Again, this put another smile on her face.
