Author's Note: This is a short fun piece about what we Americans call the day after Thanksgiving. The stores have some of the best deals of Christmas, and people go nuts, some getting up before dawn and waiting at the stores. I researched it online and it sounds like Boxing Day is the same way, only more nuts.
Black Friday
"Why are you going to America?" asked Becker.
"Two words, Becker, Black Friday."
"What?"
Jess rolled her eyes. "You are shopping deficient aren't you? Black Friday is the first day of the American Christmas shopping season, the day after Thanksgiving, and a day I've always wanted to experience."
Becker shook his head. "Shopping? You're going to go to another country to go shopping?"
"Not just shopping. I'm also going for Thanksgiving. I'll eat a yummy turkey dinner of about a gajillion calories, fall asleep after that, which will get me all rested up, and then I'll start out bright and early on Black Friday shopping up a storm, hopefully with a cup of coffee and several chocolate donuts close by."
"You're insane."
"Why?"
"You're going to take the time and money to go all the way to another continent just to eat a dead bird and shop."
"That's right, so why am I insane?"
Becker laughed.
"Boxing day is similar, after all," she said, "well, minus the dead bird."
"So, just stay here and join the other lunatics on Boxing Day."
"Oh, Becker," she said, shaking her head. "Sometimes I think you just don't know me at all. Of course I'm joining in on Boxing Day. I'm not going to miss that. It's my favorite day of the year."
"You're insane."
