The Most Important Thing- purpled

Fandom: Prince of Tennis

Pairing: Tezuka/ Fuji

Summary: Inspired by Nelly Furtado and is told from Fuji's point of view.

Disclaimer: Nelly Furtado's song is obviously hers. If Prince of Tennis were mine... well... less tennis, more snogging I guess. Fwahaha... (Suspicious Inui-like smirk)

sometimes my skin's so thick it's frail

I just need to be ignored until I wake up to the beauty that is yours

And it all comes to life suddenly

-"Childhood Dreams" by Nelly Furtado

We're just at that point where we're both ready to move on. I feel him tug at my belt, and suddenly, I pull away. I feel him stop, confused, uncertain. His face is flushed, his gaze cloudy. His glasses have fallen to the floor long ago, along with our shirts. I meet his eyes for a single second, then I lean forward, resting my head against his broad chest. I feel his heartbeat thudding, in sync with the hurried tempo of my own. His arms automatically wrap themselves around me, pulling me closer. He waits, silently, for an explanation.

He doesn't need to ask. I'll always tell him.

I close my eyes, the corners of my mouth staying the way they are. I learned long ago that my carefree smiles won't make him forget so easily.

Won't make him quit so easily.

I sigh, exhaling slowly. And then I speak.

"Is this how we'll always be? Hiding behind closed doors, fearing the shame and the prejudice we'll experience when someone finds out?"

"Unless you're up to performing for an audience, I doubt we'll be able to do it anywhere except behind a closed (and hopefully locked) door." How he can joke at a time like this, I don't know. He never even smiles when we're out there in the real world.

I sigh again, letting my breath puff over one toned pectoral muscle, watching as the nipple becomes erect with the cold and suppressed desire.

"You know what I mean, Kunimitsu."

He moves away slightly, forcing me to sit up and look into his hazel eyes. One hand moves up from its place on my hip to cup my face, as the other pulls me closer. "Does it matter what they think? As long as we remain the most important thing to each other, they can't hurt us. At least, I'm not about to let them to."

As our eyes meet and lock, as my head tilts slightly at an angle and our lips meet, I realize the truth and depth of his words, the love I can feel emanating from him.

And I know he's right.

His hand starts stroking my back, softly, comfortingly, and I lean against him once more.

The most important thing...

Is our connection to each other.

Is the way he says my name and holds my hand.

Is the small genuine smile he gives when he's happy.

Is our love, pure and simple.

The most important thing...

Is that we stay this way forever.
