This is my first attempt at anything Artemis Fowl related. Except that it's
not very Artemis-y. Yesh, I can't believe I wrote this.
Some background info: Set in a co-ed school, Holly is masquerading as a human while checking up on Arty, after he regains his memories. Before dear Mulch came, a girl by the name of Ren decided that Arty was going to be her friend. She's mad at Holly, cause Arty likes Holly better XD
Ooh, I think someone is jealous.
And now the story:
"Do you know how hard I tried to make him my friend?" The question was spoken softly, but the emotion spoken in those words made Holly actually turn and look at the Mud Girl. Or Mud Woman, considering she didn't look like a child, really. She was faced away from Holly, her shoulders hunched and slightly shaking as she tried to suppress sobs.
"I tried so hard, you know. I saw him once; he was talking to that bodyguard of his, Butler. He was human, he wasn't trying to act all high and mighty, and he was a normal teenager. And he was kind. He cared, and right then and there I decided to make him my friend. I wanted a friend like that, someone who cared that much. So I worked hard, at first I annoyed him, but finally he gave up and I was able to get closer to him. Then he started to tutor me, mostly out of annoyance that I couldn't understand classes.
Those were some of the best moments of my life. He began to recognize me as a human being; he began to talk to me. I talked to him, and he comforted me. It took over three years, one year to get him to see that I wasn't just a disgusting parasite on his heel, a year for when he would just put up with me because he had too, and finally a year wear he began to slowly trust me. He was my friend, and I could rely on him, he could rely on me.
Then you came. Suddenly, I wasn't important anymore, I wasn't interesting enough. No matter how hard I've been trying this past year, I know. I'm no longer his friend, because I'm not good enough. Not compared to you. It's always Holly this, Holly that, I have to go see Holly, Ren. No matter how hard I tried, you were always on his list of priorities. I wanted my friend back; I didn't have anyone else to talk too. Everyone else here is fake, you know.
You dare ask why I dislike you? Now you know. Because you stole someone I had worked so hard to know me. You managed to make him forget I even existed, and I can't forgive you for that. Prehaps," a bitter laugh, "he was never my friend. Maybe I'm only fooling myself." Ren turned towards Holly, the tears messily dripping down her cheeks now, and smearing her mascara. "That's why." She whispered as she walked by the elf disguised as a human. Slowly Holly turned and blinked at the figure walking down the now empty corridors, and muttered to herself,
"Artemis will need to hear of this."
