"Tell me…Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?"

My eyes tugged together at the strange statement. I looked over to see my mother watching the sunset. With a sigh, she looked very…peaceful. She shifted from side to side and she softly hums a lullaby. Slowly my eye lids were closing till she stopped and moved to sit next to me on the couch. I lowered the volume from the television as she had this smile on her face, "How about a bedtime story?"

My eyes rolled playfully, "Mom, I'm seventeen."

"I know, I know." She chuckled, "Just this once, I promise."

She always does this and it's always around November. Not that I mind but she's been telling me the same story ever since I was a little girl. She stopped, though, when I reached ten. You usually wouldn't hear it from anywhere else. No parent tells their children these kinds of stories…except of course classic tales. This one though was completely different. Now what was it about again?

"Let me tell you the story about this one hero…"

I let out a small groan and she gave me this annoyed look and somewhat pouted. Sometimes I believe I'm more mature than she was. "Mom, I think I'm…" My attention reverted back to the window. It was suddenly cloudy as thunder rumbled.

"Oh dear…" My mother mumbled as she stood in front of the window yet again.

"I can't believe it!" I cheered, "And I was starting to think that we were turning into a dry desert." My fists pumped in the air as I wore a toothy grin.

"I'll say,"

I, then, charged outside, "Can't wait to taste it!" I can hear my mother protesting to get back inside through the sound of my pounding footsteps. I stared at the sky and waited for the water to pour down on me. I've waited for the cold weather to come but this year was a strange one. Ever since the hot flashes in the summer, this town has been nothing but an oven. It's near thanksgiving for goodness sakes. It usually snows. Well at least it's going to rain. I watched as the lightning tore across the sky, which was followed by loud thunder.

The next thing that happened was…well all I remembered was my mother screaming and a light flashing.
