"I never would have married you if I'd known how good you are at scrabble," Alex exclaimed as another word was placed onto the board.

He stared at his significant other in awe as a smirk traveled across his face.

"Says the one who is the biggest motor-mouth I know and can write for three days non-stop," John said grabbing new letter tiles from the bag.

Water droplets pelted at the windows with a loud pitter patter. Layers of blankets spooled out across their crossed legs and the worn carpet. A few dim lights cast a soft glow over the couple as they played in the early hours of the evening.

"Writing's different," Alex groaned. "When I start to put my ideas down on paper they flow and don't stop. This is just one word. Do you know how many words there are I can choose from?"

John took a sip of the hot cocoa beside him and looked at Alex with humour in his eyes over the rim of the mug.

"Well, I never thought that I would see Alexander Hamilton lost for a word."

"My dear Laurens, I am not lost for a word, I am more as to confused of which word I should choose to make," the smaller man declared, determined not to lose this battle.

He placed four tiles onto the board reading - B A K E.

A gurgling sound told Alex that John was choking on the cocoa. Laurens emerged from the drink laughing until he saw the look on the other man's face.

"I'm sorry sweetheart but you really do need to work on your vocabulary," John explained trying not to hurt Alex's feelings any further but also finding the word hilariously underdeveloped for someone of his husband's education.

Alex still wore a pout on his face and curled up even further inside his oversized jumper when John played his next word - LOVABLE.

"Hmph," Alex grunted as John drew six more letters.

"Do you know how I thought of that?" John asked.

Alex shook his head.

John smiled. "I was just thinking of what you are."

A blush crept it's way over Alex's face as Laurens leant over the board and planted a peck on his lips.

"I love you," Alex said softly.

"I love you too, but it's your turn," John said as he arranged himself back into his original position, watching as Alex turned back to his tiles with a small groan.
