Heh. Took me long enough to write again.
I've actually been working on another piece as of late, but this idea popped into my head last night and I felt that it had to be written before I lost it. I really don't think this is my best work by any means, but it's short and sweet and gets the point across quite nicely, so I'm satisfied.
Disclaimer: Soul Eater is the property of Square Enix, TV Tokyo, and Atsushi Ohkubo. I am not affiliated with its production, nor I am profiting from this work in any way, shape, or form.
Underneath that enormous grin, Oni is rather puzzled. And since Oni is not usually one for thinking too hard, this says quite a lot.
And it's all to do with that girl with the big green eyes and the twin tails in her hair.
On one hand, she is helpful. After all, she was the one who had persuaded Soul to give in to the influence of the black blood under the school on that roller coaster of a night. She had convinced him indirectly, too. In his struggle to find the strength to overcome his enemies - and more importantly, to keep her out of harm's way - he has indeed embraced the dark power of his own accord.
But on the other hand, she also makes Soul reluctant to use the black blood. He has learned the costs of tapping into it the hard way, and between consuming her soul against his will and watching her go completely and utterly insane, neither end of the consequential spectrum looks any more attractive than the other. Not to mention that the majority of his decisions to succumb to the power were hindered a great deal by his concern of what would happen to her as a result.
She both pushes him towards the insanity and pulls him away from it. And it is here that the little demon has trouble deciding whether she is a devil or an angel, or both at the same time. It's quite the conundrum, really.
In the end, Oni is unsure of what to make of Little Miss Maka Albarn.
Oni is sure, however, of one very crucial, undeniable fact: Soul wants to protect this girl by any means necessary.
"...By any means necessary."
The words elicit from the creature a sinister chuckle. He continues to chuckle and allows that sickening grin of his to widen as he watches the two ebony-clad adolescents make their way across the red and black tiles. His smile grows a little bit wider when he notices the boy's hand tightly yet gingerly clasping the girl's gloved one, as if holding onto something very precious and fragile for dear life.
It is then that Oni decides that he doesn't need to be sure. It doesn't really matter, not as long as this girl stays right where she is.
As long as she's around, he thinks, something is going to happen.
He's sure of it.
"Hehehe..."
What can I say? I like to think hard about my series.
Reviews are greatly appreciated, and I am open to any constructive criticism you may have to offer. Flames will be used to keep warm on cold October nights.
Thank you for reading. :)
