It was the middle of the afternoon, and everyone at the BAU had a stack of files on their desk to go through. Emily and Derek were occasionally talking to each other about random things. Spencer was quietly working, listening to the conversation, but not contributing anything.
Derek smiled over at him. "I wish it could be this quiet all the time, maybe we could get some work done without hearing diatribes on why time travel isn't possible."
Emily covered her mouth, trying her best not to laugh. She was turn between playfully teasing Spencer, and not wanting to hurt his feelings. She gave Derek a slight smile, when she noticed that Spencer hadn't looked up when Derek had made the comment.
Derek grinned, "Maybe, he didn't hear me. I wish it could be this quiet all the time." He said in a loud, obnoxious voice. He knew he shouldn't goad Spencer, but he couldn't help it. If the younger man was smart though, he would just ignore the comment and not say anything.
"Maybe, he is ignoring you." Spencer said in a very soft, strained voice.
"Did you just make a joke, pretty boy?" Derek chuckled. He had a feeling Emily might ream them both out any moment. She was a bit protective of Spencer at times, even more so now that she was dating him. He wouldn't blame her though. She would have every right to call them on it.
Before Spencer could say something else, Emily glared at him. "You aren't supposed to be talking, little man. You are just going to make the laryngitis worse." She scolded in a gentle, caring tone. She finished the case file she was working on, and picked up another one.
Spencer frowned as if he was scolded, and picked up a piece of paper.
Derek laughed as he saw him write in large, black letters. "Yes, Mom!"
Spencer handed the letter to Emily.
She shook her head, slightly amused. "You two are impossible sometimes."
