Porcelain had many titles, the most prominent being 'princess' and 'the Dark One's daughter' and though many people would say she's so much more than that, Porcelain would disagree. In fact, she's even less than that. She's hardly a princess, she was adopted by the king of Toy Land after she was abandoned by her father at just four-years-old. She was not a princess by blood, therefore she believes she does not deserve the title of 'princess'. She shouldn't be known as the Dark One's daughter because he was hardly her father, he gave her up and sent her to another land for no apparent reason. Not to mention, she's nowhere near as mystical as her father, her magic is terrible, she can hardly control it, and her short bursts of magic are weak at most.
Even when her adopted father ruled Toy Land, she didn't feel like a real princess no matter how hard she tried. How could she be a princess of Toy Land when she wasn't a toy? She didn't fit in, she was the odd one out but she was adored by her people. In fact she was adored by most citizens of Toyland, all except one.
Ten years after her father abandons her in Toy Land and she was taken in by the king and his son, someone new arrives. Someone who quickly works her way into the king's heart, that someone was named Carolina and like Porcelain, she was human. The king and Carolina soon get married, and she becomes queen of Toy Land.
Like most stories Porcelain had heard of princesses and their stepmother's, Carolina turns out to be living nightmare. It starts out with small, harsh comments and ends with her banishing the king and ripping Porcelain's still-beating heart from her chest and erasing her memories.
Princess Porcelain does the only thing she can think to do, she runs away and hides in the forest of Toy Land. It was the cowardly thing to do, Porcelain supposes it, but what else was the fourteen year-old to do? Queen Carolina had stolen her memories, she didn't remember anything before arriving in Toy Land, she had stolen her heart. If she tried to fight back, the woman could easily crush her heart in one swift movement.
It seemed that Porcelain's tale was over but it was only the beginning.
Mariana Gold was surprisingly adored by most people in Storybrooke which was quite unlike her father, Mr. Gold, who was feared by everyone in Storybrooke. It probably had to do with the fact that she was quite the opposite of her father, if one didn't look at Mariana for more than just a spare glance, they would never know that they were related.
The young woman was meek, quiet, and above all, sad. Her father was strong, not exactly loud but still well-known, and able to strike fear through the hearts of people with just a single look. Their differences often drove them apart, Mariana often felt that she wasn't good enough for him and Mr. Gold often had a hard time expressing affection for her.
All her life she had lived in Storybrooke, just her and her father and that big house they lived in but somehow she managed to feel out of place. Between feeling like something was missing and trying to figure who her mother was and where she went, Mariana felt lost in her life.
And then Henry Mills forces himself into life, asking for help. Despite the petty and more than likely misplaced grudge she had on the ten-year-old boy, she helps him. He wants help finding his birth mother, and how could someone who had spent more than fifteen years trying to find hers, turn him away? She decides to help him by showing him where to look and giving him the money to do so, on the promise that his adoptive mother knows. Henry insisted that his mother, Regina Mills, knew and so they search high and low for Henry's birth mother. When they find her, the two go back to living their own separate lives.
Mariana Gold liked living her quiet life in Storybrooke despite being sad and lost. There were things she would change about it, but when she meant changes she didn't mean the changes Henry Mills had in store for her. The young boy had asked for help finding his birth mother, which had been a somewhat simple task, but somehow trouble and many existential crises soon followed.
That was only the beginning of it.
Hey yo, so years ago (literally six years ago,,, it's been that long!) I wrote a Once Upon a Time fanfic on based on the story behind Marianas Trench's concept album 'Ever After' and I had it posted on here but it was terrible (I was like thirteen okay, I tried my best) and I never did finish it but I recently found the first two chapters on my old computer and I was inspired to rewrite it.. Also when I wrote the original one I still didn't know I was gay yet but Porcelain was still somehow a little gay for Ruby even though she had a boyfriend... Anyway this version is going to be so much better and it's going to be GAY because Ruby Lucas (a bi icon) deserves lOVE!
Thanks for reading nootles, I hope you enjoy the story!
