"I should have told you everything while you were still listening."


"I'm sorry," she wails, her heart hammering against her chest. "I'm so sorry!"

"You ruined it," he replies coldly, and she can tell he's crying. "You don't want anyone to care."

"No, please, Beast Bo-"

"Everything is so...fragile. Didn't you realize that?"

"I was scared!"

"You're always scared." His voice is cold and dripping with pity.

And she's falling down on her knees, her eyes contracting, her heart stopping.

The Hall of Mirrors' doors slam shut, and Tara Markov begins to fade.
