Author's Note: This was a short drabble I wrote with for Divinition class in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Challenge.
"I hate you and everything about you," Petunia shrieked. "I hate your freaky friends, your freaky school, and your freaky boyfriend. Why can't you just go away and leave us alone?" Petunia glared at her sister, her hands balled into fists, and her chest heaving. She wanted nothing to do with her sister. Here, at her new house in Privet Drive, she had a perfectly normal house with a perfectly normal husband. Lily had always thought her uptight, but Petunia needed to maintain normalcy to counteract his sister's freakishness.
Lily watched her sister impassively, her lips pressed into a thin line and her eyes suspiciously moist. She blinked rapidly and swiped a hand under her eyes.
"Actually, he's my freaky husband now," she corrected quietly. "This might be the last time I get to talk to you in a very long time. James and I are going into hiding. I- I wanted to say goodbye," she stuttered. Petunia sneered at her.
"If that's all, I'd like you to get off my porch," she hissed, looking around self-consciously as if her neighbours were watching them. "It gives me no peace of mind to know that your kind are multiplying." Her mouth twisted in disgust. "Just go away and leave me alone." She slammed the door closed.
That had been the last time she has seen her sister. Just a few months later, she found a baby left on her porch like a newspaper. It had been quite a shock to learn that Lily was dead. She had never dreamed that there would come a day when Lily would not be. She felt like a part of her was missing even though she and Lily had not been close for many years. They had not spoken for so long, but Lily had always in the back of her mind. She had always measured herself against her, wondering if Lily's husband was like hers, if she lived in a house like hers, with a baby like hers. She cradled the baby to her. "Harry" the note said. Petunia regarded him for a second before quickly looking around, stepping inside, and closing the door.
