Ritual Burning
"I want to thank you for allowing me this opportunity." General Vidrine settled comfortably cross-legged on the carpet, completely at ease.
Teal'c inclined his head gracefully. "You are more than welcome, General" He placed a large orange candle in a holder on the wooden tray between them. "Now we shall begin. If you would raise the taper in your left hand and repeat these words."
Teal'c's quarters were soon ablaze with light, as the two men took turns igniting the many candles of various shapes and sizes that adored every flat surface. After a short song of praise, sung by both participants, the ceremony was over.
It was whilst leaving that the three star general finally asked the question that had been on his mind for some time.
"I have to admit, Teal'c, I am puzzled as to your reason for inviting me to participate in this candle burning ritual."
The Jaffa's face broke into a smile. "O'Neill explained your interest in this particular ceremony. Hence my invitation. I informed him that I had contacted you at the Pentagon, and asked if he wished to attend. Unfortunately he had other duties."
Vidrine gave a small nod. "I'm sure he did. How pusillanimous of him."
As he escorted the general to the elevator, Teal'c made a mental note to look 'pusillanimous' up in the dictionary Daniel Jackson had given him soon after his arrival at the SGC.
His vocabulary was increasing daily.
