a/n: I have re-written all of my chapters. I re-read my chapters and went "Shit! So many plot holes and problems with this story." So now I have re-written the chapters, made them longer and maybe-sorta-kind of changed the plot. To fix up the plot holes, I changed the plot, but I did keep a lot of the main plot points such as most of the roles of the characters in the story. But some of the back story had changed and I crammed what used to be 2 chapters into 1 chapter. So you get the chapter update you wanted. Yay! If there are any characters I may have missed or improvement you think I need to add, Plz review or PM me!
Chapter 1
Natsu recognised many old faces, but they did not recognise him. Wendy and Gajeel, his siblings and loyal guardians. Sting and Rogue, the ancient dragons that had mentored him in his previous life, obviously not in this life since they were younger and less powerful then him, but it was to be expected. Laxus, the general of his armies, now a second-generation dragon slayer which was not ideal, but it worked. There were many others that he recognised but they were all a bit, blurry.
The memories of who he was were fuzzy, but some parts were clearer than others. Such as the people he once knew. But many parts that he was sure were key points in his past life were simply not there.
His newly awakened memories of his past life came with knowledge and power that he had not known even existed. He was still himself, in essence, just probably more...mature. Having knowledge of a full life's experiences does that to people.
He didn't even know if he was the only one to experience this, but it would have to remain a secret till he was sure. He had to continue life as he had before. Just be happy and smile, it was easy, because life was fun compared to before.
However, he was sure at least one other dragon slayer remembered, but it was better safe than sorry. If he didn't have the whole story it could be awkward. He could up to Gajeel and go "You remember when I was a hatchling dragon and you used to chew my food for me so I wouldn't choke?" He would probably get an iron pole in the face, and a kick in the groin. They would also start a fight and probably try and give him therapy because they thought Natsu was crazy.
His memories had started to resurface after the incident at the Grand Magic Games. His most prominent memory of his past life was that he had a lover, but he could never remember their face. He always had feelings of affection and love (and sometimes lust) connected to these memories, and they were powerful enough to give Natsu a boner after these particular memories.
He also had many memories with Wendy and Gajeel, well they weren't humans but dragons, however they had the same presence. They had always taken care of him, and he considered them family, even more so in this life time.
Natsu shook his head and sighed. He couldn't get too wrapped in the past or it would affect him. He would start acting less Natsu like, and letting his dragon take over. Natsu slapped his face, leaving red hand prints on his face and broke out into a smile. "Yoshaa!" He exclaimed and jumped off his bed. He would go to the guild and eat something, or a lot, then act like none of these thoughts were swirling away in his head, like storm cloud. He would be perfectly fine. He walked over to open the door and when it was open, it was slammed shut and Natsu just stood there for a few seconds, enjoying the sunlight. He then set off to the guild with a run in his step, a race to get food for his empty belly.
Natsu raced down the streets of Magnolia, but not before grabbing a quick snack from a barbeque along the way. He raced into the entrance of Fairy Tail and jumped onto a seat at the bar. "Mira! Food!" He yelled.
Mira appeared, walking to the bar while cleaning some dirty cups that had recently been full of beer, she put them on then walked back into the kitchen and said "Coming right up!" with a smile on her face. Natsu sat there, anticipating the food that was going to fill his belly when he noticed Happy. "Oh, Happy! You're already here," He said. Happy was hovering next to Natsu and waving at him. "Natsu! You got here late!" Happy exclaimed.
"And apparently without breakfast. Jeez Natsu, learn to be more responsible," A voice behind Natsu sighed.
"Oh, Luce! You're here to," Natsu exclaimed. Mira then walked in with plates of food and drink in hand.
"Here Natsu. Enjoy!" Mira said cheerfully. She then walked off to go fill up drinks in the guild. Natsu immediately dug into the food, minding no heed to Lucy and starts shovelling as much food as he could into his mouth.
"Natsu, stop stuffing yourself with food and listen," Lucy huffed. Her which were previously were dropped down as she sighed. "We need to go looking for Wendy, remember?" She said exasperatedly. It was obvious she was annoyed with Natsu lack of caring and shovelling of food down his mouth, but then Natsu stopped stuffing his mouth and just turned to Lucy and chewed while looking at her with curiosity and suspicion.
"What happened to Wendy?" Natsu asked, he couldn't remember anything happening to Wendy, and he could still smell her scent in Magnolia, so she should be fine.
"Natsu!" Lucy yelled. "We told you last night; Wendy left her house in the morning yesterday and never came back. Carla came to ask us for help and we searched till it was too dark to, so we barely even looked around Magnolia. You were tired and you said you had stuff to do so you left early and in return promised to be here early to look!" Lucy gave Natsu an angry look and just sighed. "You should remember this; it was less than 24 hours ago! I swear it all goes in through one ear and out the other with you, but you should still remember looking for her for hours! Have you got temporary amnesia or something?"
"Maybe?" Natsu said. "But I can still smell Wendy in Magnolia, so she can't have gone far." Natsu gulped the rest of his drink and shoved the rest of his food down his throat. "By the way, where's Gray and Erza?" he asked, finishing the rest of his food with a loud gulp.
"They already left to search earlier you slow poke! Now that you've finished eating, let's go and search!" Lucy yelled and grabbed Natsu hand and dragged Natsu, who was now trailing behind on the floor, off out of the guild with her hand and head held high marching off.
"Hey Luce, what about Happy?" Natsu managed to get out while being strangled by his scarf.
"He can catch up," was Lucy's reply.
"Oi! Wait for me Natsu! Lucy!" Happy yelled and flew off after the wayward pair of mages.
Somewhere else
Wendy's head was pounding. She had been having bad headaches since the grand magic games, and they had been progressively getting worse since then. They had started turning into immobilizing migraines they made her vomit or even faint. Only Carla knew about them and she tried to hide her symptoms from the rest of her guild, by having large doses of pain killers in the morning and taking a rest whenever she could so that she couldn't feel the throbbing in her head.
She had also been experiencing bad nightmares. A particularly bad dream had been one where she had been a dragon, and she had been in a blood bath. Whenever she woke up from this dream, she would make a dash to the toilet and throw up whatever was in her stomach. All the blood she saw made her sickened.
She had also been seeing things. She was seeing Natsu and Gajeel in a different light. Whenever she saw them, she experienced feeling of nostalgia and comfort. She also felt strangely respectful of loyal to Natsu, like one would be to a monarch or leader.
Wendy had started matching people in her dreams to people she knew and saw every day. Gajeel felt like her little brother strangely enough, the one with shiny black, metallic scales. Natsu was the large dragon who was her sun. In her dreams, she was always kneeling in front of him, only daring to lift her head when he said so, and then she would stand behind him. But she knew they were not equals; however she thought she might have been close.
Wendy had some theories as to what was happening. She had consulted many books and sources, including the guild master and many of her comrades. Wendy had come to the conclusion that she was experiencing a past life. Carla often had visions of the future; maybe she was having visions of the past.
The problem was, she didn't know if anyone else was experiencing what was happening to her. Natsu certainly wasn't having any pains. He probably would have asked her to cast some healing magic to make it better. In fact, all the other dragon slayers were acting just the same. Perhaps it was just her?
However, Wendy didn't really care right now, as the pounding in her head made her want to cry and scream. And yet here she was, clutching some cloth between her teeth so she wouldn't make a noise and collapsed on the floor of the some backwash pub she didn't even know how she had gotten into, in pain.
Wendy wanted it to stop. She knew no one was paying attention to her so they wouldn't care if she screamed or even got drunk, and it would probably disturb those that were living above the pub and those that weren't so drunk they could hear a young girl screaming. But she was reaching the limit; she wanted to black out with the pains, emotions and memories that were flooding into her mind. Her teeth were losing the strength to keep shut and she was passing out, so maybe it would be okay if she screamed and cries for help.
Suddenly, into her vision appeared a drunken rune knight who had saved her countless times before.
Streets of Magnolia – Gajeel
Gajeel was being forced to go look for the sky dragon slayer. Everyone had been very worried about her, but she was a dragon slayer, she could take care of herself. And yet, here he was, looking for her in Magnolia with Levy.
He knew from experience, that she was probably paralysed with pain from the memories that were probably filling her head right now. Gajeel had had that too. He and Wendy were unlucky, because he suspected Natsu had "awakened" too, but gradually, like melting ice. For Gajeel, it was like someone had smashed the ice all in one go.
They had searched the dorms already and every agreed, she wasn't there. Surprise.
It was probably best that they left her be, she was unstable right now; her past life was a threat. There was a possibility that what she was would overwhelm her current-self, leaving an angry dragon intent on destruction. Magnolia would just be in the way.
When Gajeel experienced all those memories coming to him at once, he destroyed his bed. When he came to terms with what he had seen, he had smashed a couple of chairs and destroyed a few walls. When he realised that in his past life, Natsu was his king, he had gone to Salamander and punched him in the face. This had resulted in an all out fight in the guild.
"Gajeel?" He heard. Gajeel looked towards the voice and realised it was his navigational companion, Levy. "You were so deep in thought, are you worried about Wendy?" She asked
"Na, I'm sure she'll be fine. She's a dragon slayer." Gajeel replied. Gajeel huffed and ruffled Levy's hair. "Stop worrying so much, I can smell she's still in Magnolia, it's just a matter of time."
"Mm," She replied curtly, hiding her flushed face by staring at the pavement. Wendy was going to be okay.
Gajeel continued walking, but this time, he decided to try to actually look for the young dragon slayer. While he would never admit it, he was slightly worried for her. Those headaches could be a pain. Maybe he should have left her some booze pain killers. He doubt they would have worked though. But maybe he should of helped her, he was first to remember so he should have helped.
Seeing Natsu remember, he couldn't care less. It just meant Natsu thought he was better than Gajeel, not in a million years. But seeing a he was older than Wendy this time around, maybe he should have helped her, like he she helped him back during the war. He owed at least for that. In the end, they all died so maybe debts don't follow someone into their new lives. Natsu would probably make him admit that Natsu was better than him, and lick his feet. Like hell he would do that!
That was not the problem now, because he had spotted a certain blue-haired dragon slayer being carried by a rune knight.
Wendy
Everything was red. My normally pristine white scales were died with the blood of enemies. But I had meant to do all this. This was all for my king. My precious little brothers.
There were corpses everywhere, they had all opposed him. They didn't deserve the small spark of life they had been given, that's why it had been snuffed so early, by me.
These images and thoughts kept running into her head. This wasn't her! She could never do something like this, she healed people. She helped people!
I had finished my job. I lifted my wings and started soaring to my destination. Maybe stop somewhere along the way for a bath. After all, I couldn't contaminate my precious with king with all this blood. He was so pure and innocent. Maybe this is what is called blind faith.
Wendy couldn't keep seeing this. It would drive her insane! This wasn't her! And even if it was, it wasn't her now. She could see so much of what she was, and she was terrified.
"My dearest younger brother and king, the enemy are no more." I said. I lifted my head to see one of the most precious things in the world to me. He was radiant, he was my leader.
"I appreciate what you have done, respected sister and my loyal guardian. But you should not put yourself in so much danger for me. Respected brother and I would be devastated to see you leave so soon because of a meaningless war." He said. He motioned for me to stand up and take my rightful place, behind his throne.
It felt like euphoria. That was the most prominent feeling Wendy felt right now. This dragon, he reminded her of Natsu even though they seemed so different. And it felt nostalgic what she had been called by that dragon, even though it was so formal and old-fashioned. It was like it was rightfully hers.
She wanted to escape; Wendy wanted to be Wendy again. But she didn't know if she still would be when she woke up again. These, memories, were of a life so full and ancient that the life she was experiencing was far older than hers. They were going to overwhelm her, they would integrate with who she was now, and make her more.
Wendy heard voices. They were worried and yet comforting. They were asking her where she was, why she didn't go back to Carla last night. The one she heard the most was "Are you okay?" and there was "Do you need use to get Porlyusica?" and words of concern for her well being. Then she heard footsteps that stood out among all others. The presence was overwhelming. She wanted to move, to show her respect and affection. Where that last one came from, she had no idea.
What that person said stood out most of all. It was a dragon slayer, which one she couldn't tell. She was too groggy and her head hurt too much. But what they said was a whisper that held more power over her than she had known.
"Do you remember yet? Do you remember us, respected sister?"
a/n: WOOOO! Done. I'm so happy with myself XO as I said the first time I wrote this, thanks to XDarkRider, whose work was the inspiration for this (I got permission). Thank you to my readers! I know I haven't updated and suddenly I'm re-writing the first chapter and everything else is null-and-void. Once again, so sorry.
