I love DN and Near (and L squee!) but this is just a little drabble in third person from Near's brain. :D
I don't own Near..but i wish i did XD
Third Person POV:
Near stares at the minature puzzle piece in his hand, then down at the nearly filled board in front of him. He loves this. The idea of creating something, of solving something, from all these tiny little pieces.
It doesn't take him long to locate the place where the cardboard cutout he holds belongs. He places the piece in it's correct spot, just on the left side of the board.
How could Mello not enjoy this. Why does he insist that puzzles are a tedious and stupid way to just waste time. Near does not understand his thinking. It's illogical.
The only way to win. The only way to move forward in a case, in anything, is to solve the puzzle. Near snaps the next small curved black and white piece into it's place almost absentmindedly.
Is this not what L teaches them? To find the pattern. Find the puzzle and solve it. One piece at a time. Another small blue and black piece clicks into place. Almost done.
This is why Near is the only one who could ever succeed L. Mello mixes in too much of his own anger, own emotion into his work, which causes nothing but confusion. Chaos.
Click. Another piece done.
Near can separate. Emotion is useless in detective work. It's unorganized and clouds the mind. Staying level headed and calm keeps thoughts clear. Making solving the puzzle...that much easier.
Snap. Almost finished.
Near's hand reaches up and one finger hooks around a strand of hair right above his ear. He twirls is slowly. The final piece. It is a strange shape, in a barrage of colors. By itself it is odd and seemingly uneeded, but once put into it's place...it combines everything. The missing link.
Near will be the next L. He knows L will choose him. How could he not? After all, he is the one who can...
Click.
Complete the puzzle.
Review please :D
