Logan stared up at his ceiling. His mind was a whirl.

'Was she actually going?' he asked himself. Out loud, he answered. "Of course she is. Who says no to Stanford?"

Logan knew she had wanted to go there to begin with, but with the money being taken by her mom, she hadn't been able to afford it. Now she could go, though. Now she had the opportunity.

What would he do without his favorite opponent? Who would he spar with? Dick was no fun to fight with. Mac wasn't bad, but when Veronica was gone, would he be able to even still call her a friend? Her loyalty would forever be to Veronica first, and it should be.

He had a feeling his life would get very lonely with his favorite blonde spitfire out of Neptune and out of his life.

There was a sharp knock on the suite's door. He groaned and rolled out of bed. If Dick had been there, he would have stayed in bed, but unfortunately, Dick was busy chasing after his newest flavor.

When he grabbed the door's knob and swung it open, he involuntarily gasped at seeing who he had just been thinking about.

He crossed his arms over his chest. "I guess congratulations are in order."

Veronica bit her bottom lip. "I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye."

"Don't do me any favors."

He turned to close the door, but Veronica's soft voice stopped him. "Please, Lo. Please understand. I need a fresh start. Away from everything."

With his back to her, she couldn't see the pain that flashed in his eyes. "Don't you mean away from me?"

"No, away from everything. I have so many bad memories here."

"A lot of them involves me." Logan refused to let go of it. He was like a dog with a bone. Might as well call him Snoopy.

"Don't be so egotistical. Believe it or not, my world does not revolve around Logan Echolls. Things got out of hand here, and I need to get away from the seedy dealings that happen in Neptune. I can't keep chasing the bad guys. Too many people get hurt when I do. And as long as I'm here, I'll never be able to stop."

"I guess this is goodbye then," he said, still not looking at her.

She sighed heavily. "Goodbye, Logan. Take care of yourself."

Logan heard footsteps retreating and looked over his shoulder, catching the back of Veronica as she walked into the elevator. When she turned around and pressed the button to go down, their eyes met for what might be the last time for a long while.

He drank her in, knowing it would have to hold him over until their next meeting. His heart broke as he saw Veronica fighting back tears as the elevator close.

Tears came to his own eyes. Despite what they said this wasn't goodbye. They'd see each other again. This couldn't be the way epic ended.
