Passage one:
"What is more important? Choices? Questions? Answers? Power? Is any of this truly important or just an illusion to make us think we have control, part of a program to make us feel real? How can we tell which reality is true, if in one we live our day to day lives and in the other we are merely batteries, nothing but a food source. But if you want out...wake up.... right?" Kat's mind was full of questions as she ran down the slippery black street, rain beating down on her. "Why didn't I take the blue pill? Was knowing the truth worth losing it all" she looked over her shoulder to see the agent closing in on her. She started running faster, her legs hurting her clothes soaked and heavy, she had no idea where she was, all she knew was that she had just shot three cops and was running for her life. Grabbing a phone from her black coat she yelled "OPERATOR! I NEED AN EXIT!" A gunshot knocked the phone from her, and nicked her hand. Blood gushed from the hole between her thumb and index finger, she winced and kept running. Kat looked behind once again to see the shine of the agent's sunglasses, turning her head back to see where she was going she saw she was in an ally, nose to nose with a brick wall. "dammit" "Miss Scott" the words cut through her like a bullet...her soon to be fate she feared.
Spinning around quickly she pulled two guns from her coat and fired aimlessly at her dark target. He dodged every one, as she knew he would, she threw down the weapons hoping she had bought some time and soon she would see that black Lincoln pull up and save her life...it never came.
"You could have joined us, you could have lived" the agent said aiming his gun, "goodbye Miss Scott"
Kat lowered her head and closed her eyes, waiting that moment when the bullet would rip through her skin and tear her life away from her, for that moment her blood would spill onto the pavement, the moment when her the Nebuchenezzer crew would stare in shock and weep over the loss of their young crew member...this moment never came. Kat opened her eyes to see the agent, below her only a tiny speck, "am I dead?" she asked herself. She felt a grip on her coat and saw she was flying, she could not see her savior's face, "thank you Neo" she said quietly. The next thing she knew she was standing in front of a ringing pay phone, she looked around for Neo, he was nowhere to be seen, shrugging she picked up the receiver.
Kat awoke to see Morpheus standing over her like a guard; she could see relief in his eyes, the relief turned to questioning. "Kat" he said as she sat up, "what happened?" Kat looked at her wounded hand "oh, I got shot and...." "Not that" Tank interrupted, "the code, it changed and became unreadable" Kat stared at them, recalling the events, left the note for the knew one, shot the cops, chased by an agent, then Neo saved her, that was it. Then she spotted Neo standing by Trinity, eyes on Kat awaiting the explanation. "I...thought...Neo? We're you jacked in just now?" Neo looked oddly at his pale crew-mate, "no, why?" She looked at her boots, wanting an explanation for herself, "some one saved me, I thought it was Neo, I was just standing there waiting for that bullet when someone saved me and..." her head rose. Tank looked back to his computer, "Kat...what bullet?" Kat looked at her hand "an agent was chasing me" They all looked at each other; obviously they thought Kat was insane, "Kat, there...was no agent's code" Kat continued on like Trinity had said nothing "someone saved me Neo" her gaze focusing on his brown eyes, she trusted him, only him "they flew Neo...they flew"
