Harry decided on a course of action, but had to wait until the others had gone to bed.
Hermione went first, and then Ron, stretching and rolling up his transfiguration essay as he went.
Moving his things to a small table by the fire, he unscrewed a bottle of ink and began to write;
"Dear Cho,
I'm really glad I hung back after the DA meeting tonight. I'm hoping we can go to Hogsmeade together next time there's a school trip (unless we sneak out to stock up on chocolate frogs first - there's a secret passage that leads into the basement of Honeydukes!).
Regarding our conversation about Cedric, that's an area that's difficult for both of us (but even harder for you!). I got to know him as a good friend and competitor, and I hope I can help you through what you're going through - I'd like if you'd help me too.
- Harry
P.S. - I hope we can stay in touch over Christmas."
Harry re-read the letter, surprised at how smooth it sounded. Perhaps the situation needn't become a complete disaster. Yawning, he quickly rolled up the letter and called out clearly, "Dobby!" Seconds later, he heard a "pop" as the tiny form of an elf appeared by the light of the fire's glowing embers.
"Harry Potter called Dobby!" said the elf in his high-pitched voice. "Yeah Dobby" said Harry. "Thanks for comming. Errr...I was wondering...could you deliver this letter to Cho-Chang when nobody else is around? She's a sixth year Ravenclaw. If I send it by owl, someone is bound to see." "Of course, Harry Potter, sir," squeaked Dobby. "Dobby would be happy to." "Thanks Dobby" said Harry. "Oh, and here's a sickle for your trouble. Trust me, it's worth it." "Harry Potter is too kind" said Dobby. I's will see to it that it is done." And with another pop, the elf was gone. Feeling slightly nervous, but also elated, Harry too climbed the stairs to bed.
