Katherine is bored—bored in Mystic Falls with her mind showing her pictures of these pretty blue eyes. She has heard her young blonde vampire's dilemma concerning one Matt Donavan and ever since, that boy's blue eyes have been taking over her mind. So really, it is hardly a surprise when she finds herself wandering over to his house in the middle of the night.
She realizes once she gets there that she's never been in his house before and sighs in frustration, mentally cursing the limitations of being a vampire.
She finds herself at his window, tapping on the glass to wake him up.
He opens the door with hardly any hesitation and Katherine is smart enough to know that it's no coincidence—similar situations probably played out in his past with her look-alike.
Katherine hates that Elena had him first.
"Elena?" Matt asks sleepily, confirming Katherine's thoughts. "Come in. What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to see you," Katherine says, deciding at once to play her doppelganger as she crawls through the window. She'll get father as Elena than as herself—especially since blue-eyed-Matt seems to have a newfound hatred for vampires like herself. "Wanted to know how you were dealing with…everything."
Matt looks surprised. "You know—about Caroline…about vampires?"
Katherine wants to laugh, wants to say, "Yes, sweetie, I am one," but instead just nods. "I know everything and…it isn't…it isn't easy."
He seems to reach his breaking point with those words of truth for his pretty eyes that Katherine cannot get over fill with tears. "The Salvatores—they killed Vicki."
Katherine nods. "I know," she whispers, "and I hate them for that."
And it's not a lie. Katherine never knew Vickie, but that they turned her and killed her has caused a hell of a lot of unwanted trouble for her that could have been avoided if her boys had just showed a little more control.
Her hand reaches his face and caresses it softly, relishing the warmth in his cheeks. He grabs her hand. "Why are you still…with them, then? They killed my sister—they should pay for that."
Katherine nods. "Yes, they should—and I'll make sure they do."
She carefully avoids the question he'd asked, for how does she explain her and the Salvatore brothers…and Elena, of course?
Matt just seems to cry more at this assurance and Katherine wipes the tears away as she stares into those pretty blue eyes.
