Street rat.

Street rat.

I don't buy that.

If they'd look closer

They'd see a poor boy.

He saves Bis from being killed for getting in the way. Bis is indebted to Dastan from that day on. They become best friends for life. It remains that way even when Dastan is adopted into the royal family.

He has no eye on the throne.

His chambers are simple in décor. Compared to Tus and Garsiv, his chambers in the royal palace are nothing special. He only has what he needs.

He remembers his roots.

Dastan does what he can especially in alms giving. It is not an obligation to him. He is happy to do it. The people love him so. It is evident when he walks among them, gambling with them, wrestling with them and talking with them.

He never forgets where he came from.

There's so much more to me.

He has lost everything.

"You know you walk like one, head held high, chest out, long stomping strides. It's probably from being told since birth that the world was yours." He half-listens to her attempt to insult him. Under the desert sun, that is not a hard thing to do.

He is sure that she does not know. And so, he tells her. Her eyes widen as he explains his past as an orphan in the streets of Nasaf. He tells her how King Sharaman picked him up after he saved the life of a friend, gave him a home, a family. . He still does not understand why his adoptive father picked him up that day.

"You're looking at the look of a man who has lost everything."

He has no home to return to. He has no one to call his family.

The only person he has to lean on now is a woman who despises him for being Persian. The Princess of Alamut is his only companion, but she is only there for the dagger. Not for him.

The gods have a plan for you. A destiny.

He did not expect this. The more times she left him, the more he misses her. It is unbearable now.

"Protect the dagger, no matter what the consequences. That was my sacred duty. That was my destiny."

The dagger or her, the question lay heavily on his mind.

"We make our own destiny, Princess."

He will always choose her.

There is a greater power at work. Dastan does not know if it is the work of Tamina's gods. He knows that he may never know, but he understands. It was not by luck that Sharaman took him in, nor was it luck that he was the one who found the Dagger.

"Such a noble prince." She says mockingly. It is a tone Dastan is familiar with.

It is not by chance that Tamina accepts the proposal to a man she does not remember she loved.

"Such a gentle princess." He replies.

It is in the stars that he does not lose everything again. Born a street rat, he has proven his worth against the sands of time as a Prince of Persia.
