Remus was more then surprised when James showed up in the Gryffindor common room, out of breath and dragging a great black thing. Upon closer inspection he realized that the great black thing was in fact Sirius, and he rushed over to help James.

"What in Merlin's name happened to him?" Remus asked quickly, giving what little help he could offer in dragging the huge dog over to the fireplace. Their friend was absolutely covered in ice, and snow was lightly brushed over him.

"I don't really know," James panted breathlessly. "We were in the library, trying to get a spot of homework done earlier, and he was all moody. You know how he gets sometimes. Anyway, he left in a huff saying that he was going for a walk and after a couple of hours I started getting worried about him and went on the grounds to try and find him. I found him all right, at the edge of the lake and half dead." He flopped down on a nearby armchair, brushing his hair back from his flushed face.

"Oh, jeez," Remus said, kneeling by the great dog's head. The fire was slowly starting to melt the snow and ice that had collected in his fur, but he was still dreadfully cold. "I wonder what he was so worked up about?"

"I have no idea," James said, his head lolling back to rest on the chair.

Remus sighed and looked down at Sirius, wondering what had caused him to run out in the dead of winter in his dog form and some how induce a small coma on himself. The fire was warming him wonderfully, however, and he would be okay soon. Remus looked down at Padfoot's paws and saw that they were covered in ice, absolutely caked in the snow that laid thick outside. He picked up the right front one in his hand and started to massage it gently. The ice came off after some urging, and the snow simply melted. He repeated the process on Sirius' other front paw, and moved to begin working on the rear ones.

A loud snore emitted from James; it seemed that dragging Sirius all the way up to the tower had tired him out. That was okay, Remus believed he could take care of their doggy friend on his own. He carefully warmed Padfoot's other two paws and then sat by his head.

He was really gorgeous in his dog form, just as handsome as his normal, human form. Remus twinned his fingers in the ruff of his friend and gently scratched there. He leaned his back against the couch and settled down to wait for Sirius to wake up. Sirius had been having lots of 'moods' lately, and Remus was determined that no matter how long it took, he would have someone with him when he woke up.

Author's note: I got the idea for this when I was holding one of my wolf's puppies and playing with its paws. Originally, it was going to be Remus that was dragged in or something, but then I changed my mind. Nothing very spectacular, but it was a little plot bunny that I couldn't get out of my head.
