The phone rang in the wee hours of the morning, and in Angel's experience
over the years with telephones- any call that came between midnight and 6 am
was sure to be trouble. With a sigh, he sat up in bed and picked up the
reciever.
"Hello?" he answered gruffly and yawning he reached for the alarm clock. The
red lcd read
3:10 am.
" Hi."
Jerking upright, he smacked his head on the mahogany headboard and swore.
"I'm sorry?"
"No, no, not you. I hit my head- you startled me Buffy. Are you okay? What's
wrong?" he
answered, hurriedly reassuring her.
" Nothings wrong." she said quietly. " I just needed to hear your voice, I
think. I'm sorry I woke you."
" You don't call me at 3am for nothing, Buffy- what's going on?" he asked
seriously.
" I just decided that I'd rather talk TO you, than to someone else ABOUT
you." she said.
"I miss you."
"Buffy, we've been over thi....you miss me?" he smiled despite himself,
thinking about how
much he missed her as well. Her smile. Her smell. He sighed. "I miss you
too."
He could hear a sigh of relief from her, though she tried hard to hide it.
Again he smiled,
chuckling.
" You know, just because we have to be apart doesn't mean I don't think
about you." He added.
" You think about me?!" she responded coyly. "Do you think about me....a
lot?"
He nearly laughed out loud and caught himself, he didn't want to hurt her
feelings. Buffy was in a delicate way, after his leaving. They both had been
through so much to be together, and now to be apart. He had surprised
himself with how much it had hurt to leave her, even more so with how much
it hurt to stay away from her all together. It was probably the most
difficult thing he had ever done in nearly 300 years of life.
" Yes." he whispered. "All the time. Every waking moment, I hear your voice.
I taste your
lips, smell your skin. Does that answer your question Buffy?"
" Oh." she answered quietly. " um, yes.... Angel?"
" yes, Buffy?"
" I love you." she whispered, her voice full of tears.
He choked back tears of his own in answering, cursing his fate and hers.
"I love you too, accushla. Now go to sleep, you have school in the morning."
" I will, Good Night Angel." she answered and quickly added. "Think about
me." and hung
up the phone before she could hear Angel's repsonse.
" Every waking moment" he whispered and sighing hung up the phone.
