A Reason

Dis.- NO. I don't own it.

A/N1- I know, not my style. But, I always wondered…

A/N2- This is, of course, not the real reason. It's called a FANFICTION for a reason.

A Reason

"Fool of a Took!" Gimli cried, "Have you any mind?"

Pippin cringed, as though expecting a blow. Merry was fuming.

"Sit down, Gimli," Aragorn warned. Legolas glanced at the camp from his perch in the tree. Aragorn's eyes met his. Aragorn turned away and sighed.

Gimli stared at his ruined meal, grumbling in the Dwarven language. Pippin walked over and offered his share, which was snatched away. Boromir tried to get Pippin to eat his share, but it was refused. Sam and Frodo refused to watch the scene. It happened night after night.

Aragorn walked over to Legolas' tree and sat with his back to it. Legolas leaped down and joined him.

'Nin mellon, what do I do? The hobbit is so immature. Merry tries, but what can he do? Gimli loses his patience far too easily," Aragorn unburdened himself to the Elf.

"Ai! I wish I could help you. If we knew why he was like this, perhaps. But we cannot push him," Legolas counseled.

"You're probably right. Elves usually are," the man teased.

"Ai, Elbereth! What did I do to deserve you!?" Legolas faked remorse. "But you're correct, Elves are of superior intelligence…"

"If it were only the two of us…Let's just say only one would return."

"I know. I would have a hard time telling your family of your death."

Legolas and Aragorn walked back to camp, laughing. Boromir was on watch. He motioned for them to come silently.

Legolas spoke first. "What's wrong?" he whispered.

"The little one. Pippin. Gimli is giving him a hard time and…"

Legolas, being uncharacteristically impatient, broke in. "Tell us something we don't know."

Aragorn glanced at Legolas, confused. Boromir masked his own confusion and continued.

"Pippin's taking it very hard. Merry's worried. He wants Aragorn to talk to Pippin."

"I will," Aragorn promised, "Boromir, wake me in an hour, alright?

"I will."

Legolas waited for Aragorn to fall asleep. "Boromir, wake me instead. Aragorn needs the sleep."

Boromir nodded, smiling at the Elf's concern.
