Breathe
With all that had been happening in Kirsty and Kane's lives lately, it seemed nothing could get worse after finding out Kirsty was sick. But it did get worse, horribly worse. They lost their baby.
Kirsty sat up in the hospital bed, staring blankly into space. Kane doing the same thing, except in the chair beside the bed. He had tried countless of times to get Kirsty to talk to him, but he was always answered with the same blank look.
It took a lot to terrify Kane Phillips , and When he'd found Kirsty a few hours ago , in the state that she'd been in he felt like turning the other way and running away , far away But when she had looked up at him , he had ran to her. Tears were running down her cheeks "Kane, I've lost the baby". Those words kept echoing in his head. The terrified feeling had been lessened and was replaced with a larger emotion, sorrow.
His eyes started to water but Kane quickly rubbed his eyes roughly, I have to be strong for Kirst
He took hold of her hand and squeezed "It's ok Kirsty, I'm here, I love you and it's going to be ok". There was a few minutes silence. "It's not your fault"
The bed started to vibrate; Kane looked up and saw Kirsty's body shaking violently. He got up and rushed to the door to call for one of the doctors. Flynn Luckily who was walking down the hallway heard his call and rushed right past him and straight to Kirsty.
"It's ok" he soothed, checking her over. He looked at Kane, "She's just in shock, sit with her, I'll go get something to calm her down"
Kane sat down reached for Kirsty and placed her on his lap.
"I'm here Kirst" he continued to whisper soothing words into her ears and finally her shakes were reduced to shivers. He reached for the blanket and wrapped it around her, by now tears were streaming down her cheeks and she was gasping for breath. Instinctively he rubbed her back gently. "Breathe" he whispered. After a few moments she was completely calm. Kirsty lifted her head looked into his eyes, before finally resting her head on his shoulder to cry.
He tightened his grip, hugging her tightly, while placing his face into her hair. His eyes started to water, this time he wasn't going to wipe them away
Everything would be alright he silently thought, as long as they kept breathing.
