TAKING THE PLUNGE

By: Vanessa Sgroi

Sam could tell Dean was giving him the stink-eye behind the dark lenses of his sunglasses. He frowned and fought the ridiculous urge to stick out his tongue. He was thirty-two, for Heaven's sake. "I still don't know why you're blaming me!"

"Because...because..." Dean huffed out a breath between chattering teeth. "You didn't talk me out of doing it!"

"Didn't talk you... Dean, I haven't been able to talk you out of ANYTHING since I was five!"

"Still, you could've done something—tie me up or...or..."

"Fine. The next time you want to do something crazy, I'll just knock you out. What made you want to do the Polar Plunge anyway?"

"The challenge," Dean mumbled too low for Sam to hear.

"What?"

"I did it because it was a challenge! Didn't expect it to be so cold."

"'Cause it's only three degrees out. You've been plunged into freezing water before and for a lot longer during some hunts. What was so bad about this?"

"I dunno. It was just...different."

Sam shook his head and tossed Dean a third blanket. "Here. You know, maybe it was because you were in a Batman costume..."

A/N: For those who may not know, the Polar Plunge is a charity event here in Rochester, and in other cities, I believe. People, many in costume, gather together and take a plunge into Lake Ontario in the middle of winter. It happened to take place today and inspired this double drabble. It actually was 3 degrees outside and the water temperature was 39 degrees.
