I found this lurking in my LtM story folder...it wasn't quite finished, so I decided to hash it out. I hope it that isn't stupid or that it doesn't end weirdly.

But, the only way I'll know is from REVIEWS! :)

Disclaimer - same ol', same ol'. :(

Cal was a workaholic; there was no doubt about it. He lived and breathed for lie detection, or rather, truth, the whole truth and nothing but. One of the biggest truths was the evident, but not verbally admitted, sexual tension between Foster and him that had been tempting them both for quite some time. "Innocent" kisses at the corner of the mouth, long and loving embraces, certain looks and movements that revealed everything to each other and nothing to others, jealousy…it was all there.

Cal refused to cross that line though, even though he knew she wanted it too. He didn't do it to be chivalrous or to protect her; he knew she was perfectly capable of protecting herself. Neither did he not do it because what if once they crossed that line, they'd never be able keep their hands off each other again? They were professional enough to handle such, of course.

No, it was none of that. He simply didn't do it because he knew she wanted him to cross it. She wanted him to ask her out on the first date, she wanted him to kiss her first; she wanted him to be the first to admit that he loved her.

Everyone gave in to Gillian Foster. The woman was damn near impossible to say no to, but he managed, and quite well, thank you very much.

When it came to women, he was a man who gave in too often. When temptation came knocking at his door, he rarely resisted, which was blatantly obvious because of Zoe. When that door even so much as cracked open, he busted his way through it – not that Zoe minded or even stopped him.

He didn't want that with Gillian Foster; if he were to pursue her, he was afraid she'd think he was only in it for the sex. His rational mind knew better, but his emotional mind was too fearful to let that side take majority rule.

He didn't know that his inaction drove Gillian absolutely insane. She couldn't stand the fact that he wouldn't seduce her, so after awhile she simply started to think she'd made it all up inside her head. That's what her rational mind told her emotional mind to keep herself from getting hurt anyway.

One day maybe his rational and emotional minds would meet up with both of hers and they'd finally have it out. His rational mind would ask hers how the hell she thought she'd made it all up inside her head; after all, she wasn't an idiot – his feelings were as obvious as a sign duct-taped to his forehead. Her emotional mind would ask why, then, wouldn't he seduce her, if his feelings were so true? His would meekly reply that he was afraid she'd think he was just thinking with his dick, like every other woman he'd seduced.

Their rational and emotional minds' fears would then counteract each other's and there would be nothing left but the physical, where there was no doubt. In Cal and Gillian's world, being left with only the physical meant it had to happen…

and the physical would be abso-fucking-lutely incredible.
