I had this idea, so I wrote it!
My first one shot... yay!
This is part of my outlook on life, the sad truth of society.
This almost reminds me of Stargirl, which is, by the way, an excellent book.
R&R :D
You like to think that you're individual.
That if there was a kid being bullied, you would stand up.
That if offered the chance of being popular, you would turn your nose up because they're all just rich brats.
But really, you're all the same. There may be different looks, appearances, names, and backgrounds.
But if there were one thing that Lincoln Highschool lacked, it would be individuality.
You think of what it would actually be like if everyone was their own individual, their own person, what it would be like.
Surely, the oh- so precious social ladder would collapse- and with that, chaos would ensue.
So as you look on at the over- crowded cafeteria, watching your peers as they interact, you try to think of someone who really is individual. Who doesn't care what everyone thinks. Who is their own person despite the mold that had been carefully laid out for her by society.
Of course, there is only one person like that who you know of.
Annabeth Chase.
She was truly a mystery to the entire study body of Lincoln High School.
To all of the boys, even the taken ones, she was drop- dead gorgeous.
And of course, that infuriates all the girls.
You think of how nearly every other girl tries to get everything perfect: hair, makeup. They all achieve that perfect image that of course never really existed.
The thing with Annabeth was, she didn't try.
And that, you think, is partly why all of the boys are falling over her. She doesn't try, and that just seems to make her even more untouchable, more mystifying.
Now, one could argue that because of this description, that she doesn't care.
No, de ninguna manera. (A/N No, by no means)
She did care, just not about her appearance.
She cared about her intellect, her school.
She is the smartest person you know, and yet she is still always striving for perfection, as if being in all AP classes isn't enough.
And so, why is everyone intrigued by this beautiful nerd?
Because, you think. She's different.
We're all essentially the same. The sad truth.
And she's different.
So maybe, you think. If we try not to try, will that make us irresistable?
No, because we're trying not to try. And trying is the problem.
Maybe we should ask Annabeth about not trying. Maybe we could learn from her. The innocent section of your brain thinks.
No you chide it. Because why would we try to be different when we all seem to be comfortable in our spots on the social ladder. We're comfortable with all being the same. Because if we're not the same, we're individual.
And individuality scares us.
