I. Introduction
Like all great conflicts, a mist of confusions surrounds the Belkan war. My goal as a historian is to shift through this to bring the truth behind the war to the public. More over, I wish to highlight so of the great men and women of the conflict. I have many people to thank for this. First, the entire staff of the Osean Military archives, the IRS of the government of Ustio, the federal police of Sapin, the Ministry or Archives of Yuktobania, as well as many of the soldiers, pilots, sailors and mercenaries involved with the major events of the war.
The origins of the Belkan war are complex, and to fully understand their role one must travel back to 1988. In Belka, the economy was struggling, a legacy of past southern invasions. This lead the infamous federal laws review. This lead to a downsizing, if you will, of the country, were the southern states, conquered in the past, were allowed to seceded after paying reparations to the central government. This gave Ocea access to all five Great Lakes, and created the state of Ustio. Time past and for a time it seemed that Belkas problems were behind her. Then in 1990, amidst new economic hardship paved the way for a hard-line right wing government.
This government began the build up to war. South Belka munitions was greatly expanded. As the Army and Air Force were expanded, Belkas' neighbors looked on with worry. Ocea expanded its military; well Ustio began contacting Yuktobanian based mercenaries. This continued for the next five years. This is our story begins.
