Hera stared at the two unconscious demigods that lay before her. Shooting a glance at her bedroom door to make sure it was locked, she placed her hand on their foreheads. Memories flooded from their minds to hers.

The first was Jason Grace, son of Jupiter. He had been abandoned as a boy to appease Hera's wrath after her husband sired not one, but two children with same woman. In anger, Hera subtly caused the woman, Beryl Grace, to become more and more alcoholic. Under Hera's influence, Beryl left Jason at the Wolf House to be trained by Lupa. And trained he was. By the time he was sixteen, he had risen to praetor, defeated Krios, toppled Kronos' throne, and defeated many powerful monsters. Impressive.

All that paled compared to the other demigod.

Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon.

He defeated a Fury and the Minotaur before he even found out he was a demigod. He traveled to the Underworld and back to prevent a civil war between his father and Zeus and brought back his mother in the process. He bested Ares with only a week of training. He found the Golden Fleece, fought Atlas, held up the sky, rescued the daughter of Athena, defeated his half-brother, Antaeus, blew up Mount Saint Helens, bathed in the River Styx, and defeated Kronos. He turned down godhood to remain among his friends. This demigod was the most powerful of his generation, possibly of all time.

Hera sighed. It pained her to do this, but it was for the sake of peace. Calling upon her godly powers, she hid all of Jason's memories, save any of his sister, Thalia. Then she did the same to Percy. Her intent was to save the memories of his mother Sally Jackson. She was the perfect mother. Protective, loving, and understanding. Yet those left willingly. The memories of someone else remained. Annabeth Chase. She willed, ordered them as Queen of Olympus, to leave. They stubbornly remained. Hera bent her entire will, all of her godly power, everything, into forcing these memories away. They refused. Percy's mind refused. Hera saw Percy's face twitch, as if he could sense what was happening. She let go. The memories were too strong, too important to Percy. Annabeth was not simply a girlfriend. She was a part of Percy. They were destined by the Three Fates themselves to be together. Hera sighed. She regretted it, but the memories of Sally left. The deed was done. Percy was sent to the Wolf House and Jason to the Wilderness School in Arizona. There were two other demigods there as well as an extremely qualified protector. They would be safe.

After they were gone, Hera pondered what had happened with Percy's memories. One explanation: Annabeth and Percy were so deeply rooted, so intertwined, so connected, that if one were to be lost, the other would surely be broken.

I saw a Tumblr post about this and liked it a lot. So here's this, I guess.
