Logan was walking down the hall towards Marie's room. He was usually uncomfortable with being a big soft hearted kind of guy, but for the kid he would do anything. It was just him and her against the world sometimes, and right now, he was okay with that. He wasn't sure if that scared him or excited him. He never had anyone depend on him before and he wasn't sure about that.
Logan eased his way down to her room and lightly knocked. He heard no answer, so he pushed the door open to find her on against the wall crying. Logan became angry really quickly. If this is about that stupid kid the Ice-Prick, he will get a piece of my mind! Logan bent down to her level and said,
"Marieā¦..are you okay?" She looked up at him and smiled a small smile, and quietly said,
"I am fine Logan. I just need some time on my own." Looking back down at her hands she sobbed for another minute. Becoming frustrated and uneasy, considering he has never comforted a crying girl before, he said gruffly,
"You are obviously not alright, so why don't you tell me. You know you can always tell me anything that is on your mind." Looking back up at him, she finally caved and whimpered. Hesitating for a moment, she threw herself in his arms and hugged him. Startled, Logan just sat there for a minute until he registered the fact that the kid was hugging him. She never hugged anyone, especially him. She has always been afraid that she would hurt him after the night that she almost killed him in his bedroom. So she avoided touching him at all costs. So, when she hugged him, he was surprised and a little glad. Silently, Logan picked her up and carried her to a chair and sat down and cradled her in his lap, like a small child. They rocked back and forth for a while until he noticed night had fallen. Thinking he should go but unsure what to do, Logan whispered in her ear,
"Marie, are you okay now?" Moving her head just enough to meet his concerned gaze, she nodded and said,
"Yes Logan, I am fine. I was just upset because today is my little brother's birthday and I haven't seen my family in along time. I miss them Logan. Sometimes I wish this curse had not been put on me." Touching her face softly, he sighed. I should have known this wasn't about Bobby. What do I say? Well, comforting her would be a start. Then, Logan put his index finger underneath her chin and lifted her face to look at him.
"Marie, if they don't want to see you, that's their problem. But they have no idea of what a wonderful and talented girl that they have. And anyone, including me would be lucky to even be around you. Kid, you are the best thing that has happened to me and I wouldn't change it for the world. So stop crying and hold your head up. Don't let them see you cry." And saying it a little gruffly, but firmly, Logan looked her square in the eye and said, "And never ever forget that I will always be here for you even if I am not here in person, I may leave and come ago as I please, but I always have a reason to come back." Smiling, she wiped her tears away, and hugged him again only fiercer.
Then she hopped of him and tugged him up with her. "Come on, Logan. Let's go teach the underclassmen how scary you really are." After that she ran down the hall and down the stairs. Logan smirked; she will definitely keep me on my toes. Logan walked out to find her already outside with Bobby.
