LILY, WILL YOU MARRY ME?
How James proposed to Lily in my imagination
These characters belong to JK Rowling and I am so so so thankful that she could think of such an amazing thing – the Harry Potter series.
It was the last night at Hogwarts before term ended and everybody was busy with packing. For the rest of the school, it was yet another end of the year and they would be back in 2 months. However, for the 7th years, it was their last night at Hogwarts. They would be leaving the castle, moving out to the real world.
Lily and James were two such 7th years. They were deeply in love and as much as they would miss Hogwarts, their main concern was how they would be together now. How the two would make their paths cross after graduating from Hogwarts was what was worrying them.
In Hogwarts, life was safe and secure. Outside Hogwarts, it was a dangerous world. Lord Voldemort was at large and there was terror, panic and confusion everywhere. People were dying everyday and no solution could be seen to end this war.
James was packing his trunk, thinking about how he and Lily would be separated due to the fact that they would no longer be coming back to school and how perilous the world was out there. He did not wish to stay away from Lily and wanted to play a part in defeating Lord Voldemort. He knew Lily felt the same way. Therefore, he made a plan.
Without even informing his best friends what he was about to do, he grabbed his invisibility cloak and ran to the common room from his dormitory, hoping that Lily would be there. She was. He grabbed her hand without saying a word and took her out of the Gryffindor tower. Lily looked at him with a puzzled look but did not question him. The second they came out of the portrait hole, James put the invisibility cloak over himself and Lily as students were not supposed to be roaming around the castle at this hour. He and Lily kept on walking till the time they reached the quidditch pitch. That was when James took off the invisibility cloak.
"Really James!" said Lily. "You grabbed me from the common room at this hour and got me out of all places to the quidditch pitch? If this is your idea of a romantic last date, then your idea of romance is horrible." James did not say anything. He just looked at her and gave a wide smile. She had no idea about what he was up to. "James Potter!" Will you respond me or…"
"Lily, Lily, Lily. Hold your horses babe. I have something important to tell you and would really appreciate if you would stop yelling. If someone hears us, we'll be in great trouble. On hearing the word trouble, Lily shut up. She was a model student and the last thing she wanted was to get into trouble on her last day at Hogwarts.
James went down on one knee. Lily gasped. "Lily Evans, since the day I've met you, I've been in love with you even if you weren't. Will you do me the honor and join the Order of the Phoenix with me?" "Oh my God James, you horrible horrible person." Lily had tears of rage in her eyes. James immediately stood up. "There I was, thinking you were gonna ask me to marry you and you are like join the Order?! Of course, I'll join the Order; I would have even if you hadn't asked. But the way you asked, ugh! James, you are such an annoying…." James knew Lily was mad and the only way to shut her up was to actually propose and not beat about the bush. He went down on one knee again. Lily shut up.
"Lily Evans, the one thing I love the most in the world is quidditch. This is why we are out on the quidditch pitch. But ever since I came to Hogwarts, I found the one thing I love more than quidditch, more than my own life. Lily, my love, will you marry me?"
Lily did not say anything. She couldn't, she was crying so badly. All she did was pull James up and kiss me, knowing he would understand her reply. He did
