Hundreds of stars. Hundreds. All twinkling brightly making a smile form upon the girl's lips.
"I'll come back to you, I promise!"
His words, they still rang in her ears like the chiming of bells. Kairi looked up to the sky in awe, her eyes swelling with tears. He was going to come back, he had to! The waves crashed together as if in song, the girl quietly walked by the shore, as if waiting for a signal. Finally, she sighed in defeat and went back to staring at the blue sky.
Sky...
Doesn't sky mean...
...
...Sora...?
The scarlet-haired girl shook her head and resumed to watching the stars.
The wind seemed to whisper a thousand secrets into her ear as she stared blankly. Kairi felt her blue eyes scan around the little isle in hopes of seeing him. It was impossible though, Sora being back so fast. It was just something she secretly wished, yet she knew it wouldn't come true.
It...Just wasn't the same without her best buds. Sure, it was great to be back on Destiny Islands, but it wasn't the same. All Kairi wished was for the sun to be embracing her and the happy noise of laughter, but all she heard now, was silence. Her short locks whipped in the breeze and the gentle smile that had once been on her face, was gone.
Just like him.
The dozens of stars represented something to her that night. Something immensely special. There were three specific stars though, that stood out to Kairi the most. Shining as bright as the sun, were the stars that gave her hope.
Hope, that they would be back, back with the same smile and the same laugh that could easily make her grin. One day, they would be home.
Even if it took days, months, or years. Even if it took all the stars in the sky to get them back.
Sora and Riku would someday be with her again, one day.
I'll wait for you two, I promise that.
