Edward woke up one morning with a smile on his face. He didn't know why but he knew it was going to be a great day. Sandra was sleeping peacefully next to him and that doubled his happiness. Since she was sleeping he decided to surprise her. He got dressed and went downstairs to fix her favorite breakfast for her.
It took about forty-five minutes. He made cream of wheat, blueberry pancakes, eggs bacon and toast. He made sure to put just a little butter in the cream of wheat just how she liked it and some jam on the toast. Then he put it on a tray and brought it upstairs. He set the tray down and brushed his teeth for the second time so he could wake her with a kiss.
He leaned forward and brushed his lips with hers. She stirred and smiled.
"Good morning sweetheart," he said.
"Edward," she exclaimed happily, "This is beautiful."
He shook his head.
"This may be nice," he said firmly, "But what's beautiful is lying at my side."
Sandra blushed.
"Did I ever tell you," she said sitting up, "that I love you."
"Of course," he said, "You tell me that every day."
He placed the tray on her lap with the cream of wheat first.
After she finished eating a strong pain gripped her stomach. She gasped and pressed her hand into her belly trying to relieve the pain.
"Honey what's wrong!"
Sandra was in too much pain to talk. After about five minutes it subsided.
"I'm fine," she said, "I just got a bit of a stomach cramp."
He looked at her with concern in his eyes.
"This has been going on for too long," he said.
"It's only been 24 hours," she pointed out, "and it's not like it's a non stop pain. It comes in waves."
"You need to get this checked out," he insisted.
"Fine," she said, "I'll get it looked at this afternoon."
"I'll come with you," he said.
"Don't you have a drive today," she asked.
"Bob can handle it," Edward replied.
"But you love your job," she pointed out.
"I don't love anything half as much as I love you," he said.
He had no idea how much his life was about to change.
"You know I don't think I can eat anymore," she said, "My stomach is starting to hurt again."
"Yeah we're not waiting for this afternoon," he said firmly, "We are going now."
He helped her up and she got dressed then they sped off to the hospital.
