Chapter 1
"A new threat"
Besaid, The beginning of an epic story and adventure. Home of the great summoner Yuna, who defeated Sin with the help of her guardians. I've heard this story many times due to it is the reason for peace. I know little of Yuna's adventures as a sphere hunter, only that she traveled with her friends Rikku and Paine. That happened around the time of my accident. 20 years ago, when I was 10, my family got attacked by a short-circuited machina. Right before it tried to kill my 5-year-old sister, I hesitated to stop it, and that's when it happened. While trying to pull my sister away, it fired a massive beam killing my sister, and obliterating my arms, leaving me destroyed physically and emotionally.
I was found alone in the wreckage of my home by a group of Al bhed soldiers. Feeling sorry for me, they brought me aboard their ship where I could recover. 1 year later I got fitted with machina arms though I hated all things machina, but at least I could function on by myself little. The arms were strong, but slow and hard to control. 2 years after that I met Rikku. This is the time I heard the stories of the summoner. She also brought me to Besaid where I met the guardians and Yuna. During that same year Rikku and a few of Al bhed managed to get me new arms. One problem was that they were machina fueled by magic. Lucky for me, Lulu taught me all she knew of magic and helped me use the arms before I could do it myself. For the next seventeen years I've trained so I wouldn't make the same mistake as I did before.
Now that I'm old enough to care for myself, I live right outside Besaid Village, still training every chance I get, but something is wrong. Something in the air, on the breeze has an uneasy smell. I think others are noticing it too. Every day when I walk to the village, some people are nervous, some looking restless from a nightmare, and children are less energetic. The only one who I've seen actually in good spirits was Wakka and Lulu's son, Vidina. I'm traveling to the village today to see if I can find out what's going on. My name is Kane, and this is my story.
Kane walked through the forest on the normal path to the village. The day had a fresh morning smell to it along with slight hint of mist. The ground was moist, but nothing noticeable. The wind wasn't too strong, but enough to move a bush now and then. A single shadow moved behind Kane which caused him to turn a 180, beginning to search for whatever it was. Two eyes appeared to the left of him, but he pretended to make no notice. The wind carried the smell of dog and a slight smell of death. The shadowy figure leapt out at Kane, but only met a machina fist. 'A fiend', Kane stared at the dog like creature as it fell to the ground, 'I though all the spirit's were sent so this doesn't happen.' The creature began to fade and spirits lifted into the air. Kane broke into a dash towards the village, with his head full of questions to ask.
