Severus Snape strode down the halls of Hogwarts, confident and convinced of his superiority over the dim-witted students walking the halls. He smirked as the little brats darted past him, throwing panicked looks back at him. Severus sneered at the students cowering against the wall, trying to get away from him. His robes swished menacingly with his steps. He stalked to the end of the hall, where the door to the Headmaster's office was hidden. He turned around once, and snorted in contempt as some first years squeaked and ran past him. He turned back to the door, a sardonic grin on his face, and spoke the password. "Severus is the cleverest". He waited, expectantly.

Nothing happened.

A scowl began to make its way onto Severus's face. "Severus is the cleverest!" he said once again. The door stubbornly refused to open. Severus growled under his breathe, and angrily kicked the wall where the door should have been. "Severus is the Cleverest!" He shouted at the wall.

Or tried to anyway.

All that came out was a very loud "cheep". Severus looked down at his body in horror. He was a canary. A giant, greasy, bright yellow canary. He heard a quiet snicker behind him. A flurry of angry cheeps came from his beak. Severus began waddling down the hall, chirping furiously at the laughing students. He flapped his wings and made a few mincing jumps down the hall. The students laughed harder. "Fifty points!" he screamed. All that came out was more chirping.

Severus scowled (as much as a canary can scowl) and flapped his wings harder. He made a few stronger jumps, making his way down the hall as quickly as he could. He passed a large door that led down to the third floor corridor. Then turned as he heard the low growling from within. The door slowly creaked open. There, hunkered down close to the ground, tail flipping wildly back and forth was Hermione Granger-Lupin's cat. Or at least he thought it was her cat. Normally it wasn't as big as Fluffy.

Severus squawked loudly in alarm and began flapping uncontrollably down the hall. Behind him the cat pounced… and came up with some of Severus's tail feathers. Severus screeched and began flapping harder. Around him students laughed. Severus flapped and jumped down the hall to the stairs. He seemed to be surrounded by laughing students. It echoed through the halls and down the stairwell. He turned to chirp to them to stop, but was stopped by the sight of the cat crouched a few yards away from him, staring at him. The muscles bunched in its back an instant before it pounced. Severus stared in horror, and stumbled backwards away from the creature. He missed the step, and began tumbling down the stairs. Falling, and falling.

BOOM

Severus fell from his bed and hit the floor. He jumped up and whirled around as he searched his room for the massive cat. His hands grabbed at his face, reaching for feathers and beak. He found nothing. No cat, or feathers, or beak. He felt his knees give out as he shakily sat down on his bed. He lay back down, his eyes still hunting out the dark corners of his room for a huge feline.

Severus stalked out his room the next morning. He scowled at students, and glared at his colleagues. He strode down the hall, and rounded a corner. There sitting in a small outdoor court, was the Pride. He snarled. Eight heads turned as one to curiously look towards the entrance of the courtyard. "Fifty points from Gryffindor." Severus ground out. "For your infernal cat!" Severus stalked past the Pride and headed back to his rooms, feeling much better.
