A/N: The idea just came to me suddenly after reading the first few chapters, inspired by one line in catching my eye. I've only read up to, I think, chapter twenty so far, so please don't flame me for not being a Fairy Tail know-it-all. I'm only using my knowledge to that point.
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail.
All That Matters
-
Natsu had always been dense when it concerned women.
Even when Lucy had pulled off her sexiest charm that would have most men at their knees begging, he was completely oblivious to it. He merely blinked, grinning like the idiot he was, and asked her what in the world she was doing. He had even brushed her actions off with a laugh. And, of course, insert another stupid comment by Happy, and his attention followed elsewhere.
At first, Lucy had thought that the problem was that she hadn't been attractive enough.
That idea, however, had been immediately proved wrong when she tested it out, seducing ten consecutive men in a row as easily as taking candy from a baby. Just a flutter of her lashes, a pout, a close-up view of her cleavage, and they were a goner.
Lucy, completely defeated, wondered how on earth he was able to shake off her attempts to entice him. He was a challenge, an obstacle and she was going to figure him out no matter what.
The answer was much simpler than she had expected.
A few more days at Fairy Tail with him, and the question was solved...just like that. It was nearly as quick as she had thought of it.
It had been a few days after Lucy and Natsu had completed their first official mission together when Lucy loudly announced that she was splitting up with him.
"Why?" Natsu had questioned, looking slightly bewildered at this sudden proclamation.
"Aye." Happy chipped in solemnly with that wide-eyed look of his.
Lucy ran a hand through her hair. "You wouldn't mind taking in just any blond girl, would you?!" She had gritted out, frustrated, partially at the fact that she still hadn't figured out the way his stupid brain worked. Other men had been so much more simpler than this idiot, ironically.
"What are you talking about...?" Natsu stared at her blankly, as if he didn't understand. "You're right though."
"SEE!!" Lucy accused angrily.
"Though, we chose Lucy to be in the team," Natsu continued on, grinning happily in a care-free manner, "because you're a nice person."
Because you're a nice person.
It was just a simple, innocent comment, but Lucy's face went aflame with embarrassment. She had been used to being called many things, but 'nice' was certainly not part of the list.
And that was when she had figured it out.
It wasn't that Natsu didn't like girls or was scared shitless of them. Lucy was pretty sure that he was straight, or she would have already caught him making out with Gray on the floor by now. And she knew Natsu could tell whether a woman was beautiful or not, and it wasn't like he didn't appreciate it.
He just sees women in a different perspective than most men.
He sees them as people, not just something to ogle or lust after. And he doesn't judge a person on what someone appears to be. He judges them on character, personality, and heart. The things that really count and matter the most. And to tell the truth, that was one of the things Lucy loved about Natsu.
Because, to him, she wasn't sexy, rich, or even smart. She was just Lucy.
And really, that's all that matters.
