The Reason
He sobbed silently as he read the letter to himself for the thousandth time.
'Please don't let it be true! Please!' he screamed inside his mind. He just wanted someone, anyone, to tell him that none of this had ever happened, that this bastard really didn't love him. The very same bastard that was on his way the gallows at this very moment, ready to pay for his treason.
'Kit, you still have time. Tell him how you feel,' a voice echoed in the dark depths of his mind. That's right, he did have time! He quickly jumped from his sitting position on the cold, hard wood floors of his mansion. He arrived at the execution grounds, breathless and emotionally drained, ready to tell his secret. He looked toward the gallows and saw him. He was stiff and stoic, just like always. Sky blue met onyx black. Hundreds of feelings danced across their eyes. Confusion, sadness, anger, hurt, passion, sympathy, apathy, lust, but, most of all, love. The feeling that transcends the very boundary of time itself. Blue eyes closed and their owner's mouth moved to form the words, 'I love you too.' The black eyes closed and a single tear slid down his cheek and his mouth curved around the words 'I'm so sorry.' And that was it. The latch was unlatched and the noose tightened around his neck cutting off his airway, successfully killing him. Silence followed. The spectators began to dwindle until only one remained, still fixated on the spot where the love of his life took his last breath.
Finally he moved. Back to the mansion and into his room. He grabbed a kunai, took it to his throat and slashed. Deep. The sheet of pure whited paper gripped in his hand, now stained with his bright red blood, slowly fell to the ground to rest beside it's intended receiver. It read:
Naruto,
Please. For me. Read it.
