It was an unusually pleasant day for Harry Potter. The sun was shining down on him and waves licked his tanning legs. He was, of course, on vacation with the Weasleys. The twins had bewitched some hermit crabs to follow Ginny around the beach and Ron was asleep under an umbrella. Harry was walking along the edge of the shore, wading in the cool water. He could've sworn he had seen a dragon fly overhead, but on second glance it was gone.
Draco Malfoy stood in the surf of the ocean, gazing out into the endless blue. It was the first time in a long time since he had been free of his father's iron grasp on him. Draco had finally snapped and fled from the Malfoy Manor where he had grown up and lived since he was born.
"Time to move on," Draco whispered, "and be free. And to finally taste the ocean."
For his entire life, Draco had never been to the beach or even seen the ocean. It was about the ocean that symbolized freedom in the world. In a world without Voldemort.
Draco began to walk along the shore slowly. He zipped up his sleeveless green jacket and bent over briefly to roll up his jeans to keep them dry. The waves splashed lazily against his bare shins.
Harry looked out across the ocean and into the setting ocean. The sun danced across the waves, teasing and flirting with the cold waters. Teasing and flirting like two boys; like him and Draco. Harry shook his head vigorously.
'No,' Harry thought sternly, 'what am I thinking? I'm not thinking at all. That's the only solution.' Harry turned his head downwards and continued walking along the shore. A lone crab scuttled into his path once, but scuttled out of his path almost instantly. When he finally looked up again, he saw a boy with blonde white hair walking towards him.
'Draco…' Harry thought wistfully.
Draco snapped out of his trance that he seemed to be in and stared back at Harry. Silver eyes stared into emerald green eyes for what seemed like hours. To any by passer, it would seem like the two were simply having a staring contest to end some grudge that they hadn't let go of for several years. Finally the silence was broken.
"Are you just going to sit there and stare at me, Draco?" Harry asked, slightly blushing from using his enemy's first name for the first time in the history of their knowing.
"And if I'm planning on that, what are you going to do, Harry?" Draco asked, smirking slightly, trying to hide the blush that was mirroring Harry's.
"Not much actually. Just stand here and stare back."
Draco shook his head and began to walk again. He walked towards Harry and stopped right in front of the other boy.
"Just so you know, I'm not like my father," Draco said softly to Harry before continuing on his way up the beach. Harry watched Draco for as long as he could, before long, Draco had become a tiny green speck further up the beach.
Once he had gone far enough, Draco turned around and looked back to see if he could catch one last glimpse of Harry, before he decided to disappear once again along the beach.
