… … … … … … … … … …
The snow fell quite heavily. It covered Remus's shoulders in its whiteness, and the chilled the air. It was so cold the tears that slid down Remus's cheeks nearly turned to ice.
Remus stood, staring out over the frozen surface of the Black Lake. Had the snow not been falling so heavily, perhaps he and the Marauders would have been playing on the ice. But at that moment, Remus felt so terribly alone.
Remus's hands were gloved, and stuck in his coat pockets. Around his neck was his Gryffindor scarf, and he wore a grey beanie. His boots were buried to the snow beneath his feet where he stood. He closed his eyes to listen to the sounds around him; nothing but a faint wind.
Until, crunch, crunch, crunch.
Someone was walking towards him in the snow. Remus quickly brought his hands from their warm hideaway and dried his semi-frozen tears. The person reached him, and Remus felt arms wrap around him from behind, invading his pockets. A face pressed into his scarf and the smell of expensive cologne engulfed Remus.
"You must be freezing, Moony." Said Sirius, his voice muffled against the wool. Remus was surprised for a moment, but he sniffled and said; "Yeah, but I don't mind."
"Usually you hate the cold. Are you upset?" Sirius asked, holding Remus a little tighter against him. Remus could feel the warmth seeping into his back. He figured Sirius must have only just come outside from in front of a fire, probably the one in the Common Room. It was also likely that he had also pressed against James and filled to the brim with Butterbeer. Remus welcomed the warmth, and nodded his answer to Sirius's question. The wind around them picked up for a moment. Sirius let out a long sigh. Remus was right- his breath smelt of Butterbeer.
"Don't be upset. It's a waste of time." He told Remus quite firmly. Remus wanted to believe him, with all his heart he wished he could believe his friend. "Once life gives me a reason to smile, then I shall. But for now, these tears are all I have."
Sirius pulled his hands out of Remus's pockets and placed them on his shoulders. Turning Remus around, his face was emotionless but his eyes displayed a world of sympathy. Remus sniffled and blinked as Sirius cupped his cheeks. His hands were so warm- almost hot- they seemed to burn Remus's skin. "You've got me." Sirius said, leaning so close to Remus's face that Remus could feel his breath coming against his lips in hot, Butterbeer scented clouds.
And when they kissed, Remus didn't feel so alone anymore.
