It was dark in the library and Finch was in front of his monitors. The moon shining through the windows made awkward shadows that landed in the corridor leading to the bathroom where they blended with the fluorescent lighting.
"Blood doesn't wash away so easily" she whispered.
"I know" answered Reese, staring at his reflection in the mirror, looking but not really seeing anything.
"Thank you"
He looked at her when he felt his hands being pulled from their current position under the running water of the sink
"I know you added even more blood to your hands by saving me"
Reese was about to speak, to let her know it was his job to protect her but she interrupted him.
"I'm sorry, you'll probably say something along the lines of 'it's my job' or 'you needed help'. But I could have prevented all of this if I had actually payed attention…" she looked up from his hands and he saw the tears in her eyes.
"You have given so much of yourself and I only wanted you to be happy, for awhile at least…" she looked away. It was hard enough to look in his eyes when she knew she failed him. Reese stared at her, tracing her cheek with his hands, still covered in watered down blood, leaving long lines of pinkish water on her cheeks, which mimicked her tear tracks.
'At least she held up until we got to a safe place' Reese noted 'she's tough'. He brought his hand up to her chin and tilted her face until he could stare in her eyes. "It wasn't your fault" he traced her lips with his thumb
"Do you really want to make me happy?" Reese questioned her. She opened her mouth to respond but stopped when she saw the twinkle in his eyes
"What…" was all she could say before he pulled her close and kissed her. She could still taste the toothpaste he had used to get rid of the taste of blood, his lips were still cold but she could feel the tenderness in his kiss. He pulled away and dropped his forehead on hers.
"Stay" he whispered, her smile could have made him the happiest man alive, if only they had not been interrupted by Finch.
"Looks like our little vigilante group is growing" he said with what could only be called a smirk.
"Took you long enough Mr. Reese" Finch teased as he walked back to his computer. As he left he heard giggling accompanied by a deep chuckle. 'Guess the latest number was more than we bargained for' he thought. But as he heard the chuckling and whispering beyond the library's numerous bookcases, he couldn't help but think she was worth the trouble. After Leila, the library had seemed too quite, and their headquarters, as Reese called it, could always use a female touch. He smiled when he heard Reese's painful yelp. Maybe she could take better care of Reese than he could.
