DECIDEDLY DIFFICULT DECISIONS
By: Vanessa Sgroi
Dean stared through the glass case, eyes scanning all the options laid out before him. He heard the lady behind the counter gently clear her throat, urging him to make his selections. Dean glanced up, grinning sheepishly. "Sorry—they just all look so good, you know?"
She smiled back. "They taste even better," she said with a wink.
"Okay then. I'll take a chocolate with chocolate icing—no, make that two. Two chocolate with peanut butter icing. And a...uhhhh...cream-filled, a custard-filled, two Apple Fritters, uh...a blueberry-filled, a raspberry-filled, and two with powdered sugar." Thinking he was done with his order, Dean started to straighten, then he spied the large spiral-shaped pastries in the back. Each flaky horn was filled with a fluffy white cream. They were a favorite of Sam's when they were kids. Dean rarely saw them anymore. He pointed at them and said, "And I'll take all of those you've got!"
The shop owner grinned. "You got it. You're in for a treat! Those are award-winning! They're my specialty."
"Yeah, they're for my little brother. He loves them. Might even eat 'em all in one sitting," joked Dean. "Maybe I'll hide a couple before he gets to them."
