Chapter 1

--2 Weeks before the camp closed down…--

The boys were out digging, as usual. Most of them had finished a while ago. Zigzag, and Caveman were the last ones to be digging. Squid was waiting for Ziggy to finish. Caveman spat in his hole and walked past Zigzag's hole. Squid was half asleep curled in a half ball. Caveman kicked Squids boot and he grunted.

"Just making sure you're still alive," Caveman laughed, and then coughed. "Ima see you guys later." He sputtered and coughed again and started walking back to camp. Zigzag looked up.

"Squid, you don't have to wait for me, man. It's just a slow day." Zigzag shaded his eyes from the sun. Squid sprawled out and looked up.

"Ziggy, you'd prolly die out here, and no one would know it. That's why I'm here. To protect you!" He screamed pointing a fist in the air. Zigzag laughed.

"Ooooookay suuure, Squid." He shook his head and dust fell out of hair. He continued digging. Squid pounded his arm on the ground.

"When are you going to be done man, god." Squid kneeled and jumped in the hole. "Lemme help you. Go sit." He took the shovel from him and Zigzag's legs gave out underneath him.

"Unh….." He just lays there, not wanting to move. Squid dropped the toothpick out of his mouth and sat by Zigzag.

"What's the matter with you, Zig?" They lean on the sides of the hole.

"I don't know, man." He sighed. "I've been really fucking tired these past few days." He closed his eyes. Squid scooted closer to him.

"I know what you mean. It's like the holes we have to dig seems to get bigger and bigger. Ahh." They were close enough that they're arms are touching. Zigzag looked over at Squid.

"Uhh, I think we better start digging this hole again." He smiled and stood up using his shovel to help. Squid sighed and stood up.

"Good idea, Zig." He grabbed his shovel, so they would finish it faster. Finally, about 10 minutes later, they finished. They started walking back to camp, when Mr. Pendanski drove up and stopped beside them.

"The boys said you were out here for a while, so I came to check on you." He wiped the sweat off his forehead. "Now that I see your fine. I'll see you back at camp." He gave a little wave and drove off.

"What an asshole." Squid said coughing. Zigzag pat his back and didn't move his arm. Squid looked over at him. They leaned in and kissed. It was a 5 second kiss. They pulled back.

"I-we…why did we do that?" Squid asked with a dazed look in his eyes. Zigzag looked hurt.

"I don't know. I just don't fucking know anymore." He walked away hurt. Hurt because the person he loved, didn't love him back.
