Prologue
It all started with steel entering flesh. The sickening sound of a sword piercing a body. A warm sensation pooled on my chest, and when I raised my hand to the onslaught of rain, the clear water mixed with the blood that already coated it. I didn't feel anything physically. It was like I wasn't even in my body, but instead a stranger looking through someone else's eyes. A pressure was building in me, a horrible pressure. My breaths came out in uneven wheezes until a thick fluid filled up my throat and caused me to cough, and gasp for the air that would never reach my lungs. I remember looking up into the black eyes that haunted me my entire life. There was no white, just black, completely devoid of life. Then there was nothing but darkness and the chill of death.
