It was late. Everyone in the chateau was already asleep-even Saiko. She was lying on her back with one arm over her stomach and the other hanging over the edge of the bed. Her soft snores were the only sound that could be heard in the quiet room until-

Bzzzt. Bzzzt. Bzzzt.

It was her phone. It was placed right next to her head where she was sure she'd be able to feel or hear it vibrate. It wasn't a call and neither was it a message. It was an alarm. She could've set it with a sound, but she didn't want it to be accidentally heard by the other half-ghouls in the other rooms with their enhanced senses.

Saiko brought up both hands and felt around for the thing that disrupted her sleep. She didn't even open her eyes when she sat up from her bed and turned off the annoying sound. She threw it off at the side and collapsed back down onto her pillow.

After a minute or so, her eyes suddenly popped open and this time, she completely got off of the comfort of her bed. She scratched her head while yawning, looking around for her handheld game. When she found it, she grabbed the pillow and the blanket from her bed and exited her room.

It was a scene that didn't seem unusual. A girl with an unfolded blanket over her shoulder, a pillow under her arm, and a game in one hand-she looked like a little girl sneaking into her parents' or siblings' room when she couldn't fall asleep. It's just that this 'little girl' looked a lot like someone who was just sleeping, but was awoken too soon.

Saiko crept along the hallway as silently as she could and headed to another room. She was especially careful when passing in front of her teammates' rooms. She was sure that if any of them saw her now, they'd immediately usher her back to her bed, convince her to sleep, and expect her to get up a little earlier than usual on the next day. She didn't want that.

At that time, Saiko needed to do her, as she likes to refer to it, duty. And no, she's not talking about a quest in the game she's currently playing, it's something more important than that. This is Saiko we're talking about and not a lot of things are more important to her than games and anime.

She stopped in front of a door and pressed her ear against it. She couldn't hear anything. She smiled and proceeded to set up camp right in front of the door. A blanket was laid out on the floor, a pillow at one side, and on top of those was Saiko who engrossed herself in her game.

After three hours, Saiko's eyes were threatening to close, but every time they did so for more than five seconds, she'd pinch her cheeks in order to wake herself up. She was so sleepy that she couldn't even play her game anymore. She rolled and stretched over her makeshift bed and decided to listen in again through the door behind her. When she still heard nothing from inside, she smiled yet again and forgot her sleepiness for a moment.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Saiko bolted up from the ground. Her eyes, which was blinded by the early morning light, turned left and right as if she had no idea where she was. However, when the beeping stopped and movements from beyond the door were heard, she quickly grabbed all of her belongings and stormed silently back into her room.

Saiko panted heavily against her own bedroom door. She couldn't believe she fell asleep while on duty. But despite almost being caught in the act, she was smiling from ear to ear. As if a weight has been lifted off her shoulders, she fell asleep as soon as she lied down in bed.

"Maman had no nightmares last night."

Author's Notes: I find it so endearing when Saiko refers to Sasaki as 'Maman'. Also, this is my first time writing a fanfic about Tokyo Ghoul, I hope you guys like it. ^^
