The Night Stars
That last case was difficult, particularly because they had a rambunctious potential victim they had to keep safe. After three autopsies, mounds of paper work, and lead after lead, Jane decided to take her girlfriend out for a wind-down in the park. It was an out of city park.
Jane and Maura were outside. It was pretty late, considering how dark it was. Jane was looking up at the sky, noticing just how beautiful it was. "Don't you love this?" asked Jane.
Her girlfriend looked at her, a puzzled expression overtaking her face. "Huh?" asked Maura.
Jane rolled her eyes. "Look at the sky," ordered Jane.
"What about the...oh," said Maura.
Jane sighed contently. She was glad she dragged Maura to this particular park. There were no visible city lights around to deprive them of this beauty. It was one of the things worth sharing with Maura. "The stars are beautiful, aren't they?" asked Jane.
When she looked in Maura's direction, she noticed that Maura seemed to be taking in every single constellation that was in the sky. She must have been running the facts about the constellations in her head. "What'cha looking at?" asked Jane.
"Orion," answered Maura. "Did you know that Orion was named after one of Zeus's great huntsman? It was named because the stars outlined the hunter's body and the belt of Orion is what makes it so recognizable. It is comprised of the stars Betelgeuse, Rigel, Bellatrix, Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, and Saiph..."
"Okay talking google," said Jane, placing a kiss on Maura's temple. "I came to share this with you, not get an astronomy lesson."
Maura smiled and snuggled deeper into her girlfriend's shoulder. "Is there anything you don't know?" asked Jane.
"I have no idea," answered Maura, honestly. Jane smiled and kissed her girlfriend again, knowing later that she would share more with her than just the stars.
