ABC fic: Wait For Me

Wait For Me
Note: deepest thanxs as usual to the ones who help me out ^_~

Artificial lights, sounds, feelings, life; nothing was real.

Bitterness welled up in his heart and his lips curled into a sneering twist. Could none of them see it or even feel it?

Death lives, Shinigami lives, but the bright-eyed, always smiling embodiment of it was dead.

Elusive, the meaning of this thing was to him; life and death, death and life.

"Fuck you, Heero! Going to your death like a sheep led to slaughter is fucking stupid! Have some meaning of life in your fuckin' mechanical brain, dammit! I love you, you idiot!"

Juice was thrust into his hand, but it could have been an alien artifact from another civilization or a piece of somebody's junk for all he cared.

"Killing isn't everything in this world, Heero."

Love, he had heard it said, was eternal but he didn't give a shit to what they said; only one person mattered to him and with him gone, nothing had meaning anymore.

Mourning was not something he truly knew how to do, but the acute emptiness he felt inside was something worse than just the simple tears and grief the other people were showing.

Nothing was ever going to be right again, unless he fixed it so that it would be for the rest of their promised forever.

"Only you in my heart, Heero, that I promise."

"Promise me forever, Duo."

Quavering minutely in sudden fear of rejection, it was all he could do not to crush Duo in a fierce embrace when he smiled and said, "I promise you forever and ever, Heero, even till death and beyond."

[Remain where you are for just a little longer, Duo. Stay there and wait for me for just a moment longer.]

Trowa and Quatre were coming for him and he avoided their unwanted condolences and concern by melting away in the shadows that lined the back of the room where the coffin lay.

Utterly hated even, those false smiles and pats and I'm sorry-ies that did absolutely nothing at all to fill the yawning abyss in what was once his heart.

"Very funny, Heero. What do you think happened to me, eh?"

X-.49 [1] bullets, the ones they used for hunting wild, enraged animals, had torn a great gaping hole in his chest, but Duo had died with a smile because the hostages had not been harmed at all.

[You'll wait for me, and we'll be together again, Duo.]

Zechs came up from behind and placed a concerned hand on his shoulder, saying softly, "You should rest, Heero" and, really, he wouldn't have had it any other way.

THE END

[1] ^_^;;; This is a total fabrication on my part. I live in a country where guns are prohibited to most ordinary people, so I'm clueless about guns.

Note: I don't know, maybe I'm feeling wacky or crazy or something or maybe its one of my regular depressions fits (yeah, I'm mad, so what? ^_^V) For this whole week and last week too, I've been hearing news about people dying. A DJ's colleague had passed away, someone's best friend was dead, accidents, stupid mistakes....*sigh* It doesn't help when I'm the sort of person who cries even when its not someone I know personally. If it hits me right then the taps just turns on ^_^;;;
This is what kinda motivated me for writing this, and *peers up* I dunno......feels like a piece of shit, pardon the expression. Though I thought of it, I don't want to dedicate such a sad, messed-up thing to all those who have passed on.....Think I'll go sleep this mood off.....
Additional note: Watch out for the texts in different color. Reddish brown in the beginning are recalls of past conversations. Light bluish-green are Heero's inner thoughts. The dark brown is Duo talking... or Heero imagining Duo talking ^_^;
