Well, this is a little short I made after some observation.

If someone already made something like this, I didn't know, and I didn't plagiarize.

Disclaimer: I don't own Gundam SEED.

Hip Knives

The familiar atmosphere of the Archangel's hanger soothed Kira as he put the finishing touches on the OS of his newly acquired...actually stolen...Freedom Gundam. In so little time, so much had happened.

Even when he excluded events preceding their arrival in ORB, Kira's life had been flipped upside down. Barely a few days had passed since the Blitz had fallen, since Athrun had fought him and killed Tolle in the crossfire. Since he attempted to kill Kira as well. Kira had woken up later in a PLANT with no idea how he'd gotten there, and had lived in peace at the home of Lacus Clyne. It was there first time since Heliopolis that Kira had been isolated from the war. He had no time to enjoy it, however, as barely three days later Kira received the news that ZAFT was attacking Alaska and the Archangel was there. Fearing for his friends' lives, Kira had high-tailed it out of the PLANTs...in a stolen, nuclear-powered mobile suit, graciously provided to him by PLANT's pink-haired pop princess, who could do no wrong for the state.

Curiosity overtook Kira as he looked over the system. He hadn't bothered to check the weapon arsenal while leaving the PLANTs or fighting at Alaska. He knew it had many more mounted guns than the Strike, as well as a handgun, a sword, and a shield. It was very powerful in comparison to the Strike, even without a huge cannon like Strike's Launcher pack.

Kira ran a brief scan over the system. It was armed with a gun, a sword, and multiple cannons and mounted guns. All in all, the most powerful machine of Z.A.F.T.

Except for the self-destruct mechanism, Kira found nothing. For some odd reason, he felt...sad. Maybe not sad, but...disappointed. This, in turn, surprised him. The Freedom had not failed his expectations in the least; in fact he was amazed by the machine. But for some reason, something seemed to be...missing.

Kira shrugged it off for later, something to think about off-duty.

Two hours later, Kira found a comfortable spot outside the Morganroete factory grounds, laying on his back in the shade of a fabulous tree. What could the Freedom possibly be missing? He neither needed nor wanted Athrun's transformable capabilities, or the Blitz's mirage colloid. He didn't need environmental adaptations, and he didn't care for a big bulky cannon. He had only used the Strike's boomerang once, against that GINN, and thought of it rarely, if never, so that wasn't it.

Kira looked back on how things had changed so much since Heliopolis, and of the first time he'd killed a man in the Strike.

Memory Lane took Kira a little further back, to the factory, when he'd been so frantic to protect his friends that he'd taken control of the Strike, and when he tried to fight back...

"Armr-Scneidr? That's it?!"

...That's it.

Hip knives.

Kira chuckled at the simplicity of what he sought.

The Strike had had two hip knives as a last means of defense; they had saved his life in his first battle against a GINN; they had warded off the Duel and the rest of the pursuing Z.A.F.T. team; they had put and end to the battle with the LaGOWE, piloted by Andrew Waltfeld; and, they had defeated the GOOhN attacking the Archangel on the Indian Ocean. It had been a trump card in sticky situations. Now, with Freedom lacking hip knives, Kira could not help but feel slightly incomplete. Odd that it should spur such an emotion given Freedom's insane power.

With another laugh at himself, Kira stood up and walked back to the factory, to ask Erica Simmons if it was possible to equip his new machine with those useful little hip knives.
