She's sipping coffee in her office when he finds her. He stands in silence for a few moments as he stares at the focus of his unrequited love. She looks up through black rimmed glasses. She pushes them back onto the bridge of her nose.

"What do you need Nicky?"

"I've got some bad news."

"Is something wrong?"

"Ecklie is moving me to day shift."

"That's not bad news, you deserve it."

"The bad news is that we won't be working together anymore."

"Nick I'm sure that I'll still see you."

"Just not as much. And you're losing your best CSI."

"I think I'll be able to handle it."

"Just checking."

"Is there something else?"

"You know that means that you won't be my supervisor anymore."

"Yeah, and?"

"I know that this is out of the blue but I was wondering," he pauses a moment to swallow his foolish pride, "would you like to go out on a date with me?"

"I'll be off in fifteen then we can get breakfast. Since it's a date you're buying right?" she jokes.

"Catherine I was being serious. It wasn't a joke. I'd like to go on a date with you. A real date, not just two co-workers going out for a bite, or a couple of drinks after work."

"Oh," she studies his face very carefully.
